    I guess IAD never got into the heavier bands that were over central Fairfax, and they are at the bottom of a bowl. Oh well. It will all be gone by 4PM.

    Ended with a little over 4 inches here, but I'd imagine the official reports will be lower as there was 3 inches or less on pavement. Liquid equivalent must be pretty high.

    I just had to clean off my trees in Fairfax, and we've had at least three blips in Fairfax where we lost power for a second. I've heard some branches coming down too. I'd estimate about 2.5" so far, 3" in grass above 400 feet.

    I can't remember the last time I had my windows open for four or five days in a row in August in the mid Atlantic... ever. The last time was probably when I lived in NW NJ in the 1990s (where a typical summer day would be like this and I lived largely without A/C).

    Still showery and mixed rain/snow/graupel. It looks like we'll end in about 90 minutes. Unfortunate I canceled my trip to Crested Butte next week for work.

    Graupel now actually can accumulate with this stuff.

    Well, if we had returns we'd have snow. I've been mixing since about 1100. Fat flakes are falling now with heavier returns. I hope the radar improves for areas south as thermals seem ready to go.

    Rain/slushy ice/snow mix in Fairfax. Walked outside a bit and confirmed here up high at 420 feet.

    3 inches to end the snow here in Fairfax. Sleet has started as the radar shows.

    Ended with an average of just over 10 inches south side of Fairfax area. Pretty consistent with this part of the county.

    Significant ice on the trees in Fairfax, pines are drooping quite a bit. This winter really has been unbetter than nothing. Ice and sleet and continuous cold, and almost no snow.

    Mostly light rain/drizzle in Fairfax, was a dusting of sleet.

    Honestly I don't personally consider this a bust at all. Just because some group predicts significant snowfall doesn't mean it is a likely outcome. Organizations that forecast weather do what they do for whatever reason, but there was never going back a week a high likelihood of significant snow around DC. Never.

    Still sleet in Fairfax, although under the orange returns seeing the cooling aloft happen in real time with clumpy sleet and even a few flakes making it down. We need sustained orange to get there, guess we have a chance in the last couple hours based on radar.

    For sure, it's number 50 on my list of 100 things that needed to get done on this old house since I bought it. I'm hoping given its age it's been through this before.

    I'm sweating at the moment. I expect little snow as this setup doesn't support significant snow at DC's latitude, but have an 80 foot pine bent about 35 degrees with the entire crown past vertical hanging toward my house. I'm hoping this is mostly sleet, like the last storm, but definitely very nervous. Of course this would be the year we get ice.

    I'd appreciate some sun at some point... getting to be pretty miserable. Another cold and dreary day.

    Icier sleet now in Fairfax, maybe we can get some snow at some point with heavier rates.

    90% sleet still in Fairfax. Hopefully the freezing rain stays away... forever.
