  1. I actually just checked the heavenly site and they are reporting 74” in 48 hours. Absolutely crazy. .
  2. It’s been a while since we even pulled 18 in 24 hours. I bet the Tahoe numbers have been insane too. .
  3. It’s a sharp cutoff…nothing south of rt 80, but your old area managed a sloppy couple inches. Terrible drive down the thruway through Albany Sunday night. .
  4. Days and days of snow upcoming for the northern greens. In a perfect world Friday is nice and dense followed by the fake snow machine and a reload for Christmas. One can dream. .
  5. It looks like even some of the missed out to sea still put the lows in good spots for upslope…fake snow season starts this weekend! .
  6. River quai is one of my favorite trails anywhere, but it doesn’t matter if it’s snowing 3” an hour, you are always scraping on that head wall. .
  7. A fun challenge out there today. Frikin hard and fast. Need snow bad. Tramside still bare waiting for the guns, but looks like they are done on northway and should be there soon. .
  8. It’s bare here too at 1850..some up top, but not much. A few years back I remember a thanksgiving wash out to bare here, but not sure how long it took to get it back. .
  9. That map was drawn by a NE skier. .
  10. I’m with you..there’s just too many brutally cold, windy days to sit on a long lift. I know true back country, die hard would sacrifice to get to that untracked stuff, but honestly, you don’t need to hunt to find powder in the woods at jay and they are not the southern resorts with thousands of people skiing it out in an hour. I’ll trade the better lift access to avoid the hike… But that’s just me. I see the other side. Steve Wright (pre the purchase closing) has said bonnie was top on the list after spending on the “back of the house” stuff that’s been neglected and that a quad is likely over a six pack. .
  11. Yeah, that’s the issue. I’ll do it on good windy powder days, though usually I cut to goat and duck in from there. If you’re going all the way over to ullrs to hit those far glades and it’s windy, that can be a bitch of a walk with the wind screaming in your face. I’m good for one run down my favorite in powder, jfk, then one in the woods, but as you said, taking the metro and the crossover trails to get back plus the hike from the top of the bonnie is a good 30 minutes process each time. I’ve also been one and done on that trek when it’s below zero and the wind is screaming. .
  12. There is no arguing any of that…jay needs to replace the Bonnie and extend it higher so when the flyer is on hold, you can access the tram side stuff. There’s areas there that hold powder for days. It would be a game changer. The four runner has a special place for me too. About 3-4 seasons ago, there was a late feb, early March storm that caught some lake enhancement and went from about two feet, to nearly 3. The day was windy with the back end and started with only the triple. The quad chairs weren’t even on and I went in to eat. I came out just as it was loading and couldn’t believe it was running. I was one of the first down and it was some of the best I have ever skied. I think I did starr, liftline, then nosedive. Incredible stuff. I haven’t been to Maine and that’s on the list, so I wonder if there’s any stuff there that would make my list. It’s interesting you left off Killington. It’s like they are a Jack of all trades and master of none. The glades are good, not great…the steeps are probably their best part, but it’s not like that incredible memory (at least for me)..I love that place though. Just hard to single out something, besides their snowmaking. .
  13. That was a 2015-2016 GFS run for the ski areas. It's one op run, but verbatim, there aren't even many snowmaking windows in that 360. Hard not to at least be concerned for December Skiing.
  14. While I think Jay wins the east if you are speaking strictly about glades and number of powder days, there is an argument to be made that Sugarbush has the best overall terrain in the East.
  15. Yeah, I agree. They have a big following and there are a ton of metro ski clubs that have houses half way between them and Killington. Being unlimited on Ikon helps too. Altera just bought them two years ago, so I can't imagine that would buy into a losing market, but this start and not running slide brook all last year (i know about the snow requirements, but they punted it). Something has to be up. Don't know if it's aging infrastructure failures, staff, cost cutting, but they've lagged really since Win sold the place. That picture of the trail under Gate house speaks volumes. It hasn't been a great December, but there have been enough windows to do better than that. Mt. Ellen usually opens in a week or two also. Don't know how you can justify that if you're still less than 50 acres on Lincoln Peak.
  16. They had some blog earlier in the season about temps not cooperating for snow making, but they have better lat/elevation than Stratton/snow/okemo etc so at this point, I think they should be further along. Don’t think it’s bravo, as their report says they are blowing jester and coffee run. Kind of disappointing. .
  17. 100 percent agree.. I have the same memories except I did it in the poconos to ski 600 vert of ice. If we saw a flurry, it was a wintery day. During ski club, the bus would drop us in a lot that seemed like it was a mile away and we would trek through the muddy lots, all our shit dropping everywhere. It was the best times. Loved every minute. You see posts on social media now about how much so and so resort sucks because the hot chocolate isn’t hot enough. .
  18. Then there's the goldilocks perspective. lol. People want cheaper passes, but less crowded mountains. Where we really want the sport to thrive is midweek. We could triple the number of mid-week skiers and still not have crowded mountains. And I think that's what makes it tough for some people to understand too when they complain about the overcrowding. The mountains and lift capacity can certainly handle the increased popularity. It's the one lane roads, parking lots, and some metro ski areas that have shorter seasons and 8 busy weekends a season. How do you justify the cost to build new roads, parking lots and other infrastructure for 8 weekends a year? But I do think that midweek has picked up at least some of that skier increase, maybe because the work from home genie is out of the bottle.
  19. The snow reports are noticed. One of the few left who give an honest account and also where things are headed. Don’t stop the snowmaking updates. I’m biased, but jay with their multiple updates a day and stowe are the best reports in the northeast. .
  20. should have never listened to the pope dude and those geese.
  21. na, i get it. World cup is huge and they do an outstanding job with it. I just didn't realize they would pull snowmakers for the labor part of it once the pod is blown . Maybe it's just perception, or maybe some other resorts have just really pushed this season. I'm not used to seeing Okemo at 126, Mt. Snow at 135 Stowe at 94 and Killington at 60. Lack of any natural probably hurts too. They did grab some acres from the North Ridge naturals last year around this time. To see them running only 3 fan guns during a 24 hour November window just seemed odd to me. I figured they would have blasted those high connecting trails up on K1 to connect the pods. But in no way a bashing of Killington.
  22. What’s up with Killington this year? Their snow report says they managed to run “3” fan guns today to fix weak spots. Stratton must have had 30 plus (prob more on terrain out of site)…would think killington has better or similar temps. They are sitting at 60 acres while others are pushing 100. Superstar will add to that once they chop it up, but they seem to be behind this year. Whiteface, Sugarloaf, Stowe, Stratton, hunter even mt snow getting after it. .
  23. Stratton today..not terrible. I’ve skied much, much worse in November, especially considering the warmth ten days ago. They have 4 ways from the top and good coverage, though a few thin spots mid mountain. It def feels like winter at the top; flurries, cold, overcast and tons of guns going. Looks like they are focusing on beginning stuff from the top. Don’t get me wrong, it’s icy early season stuff, but considering the rain, thaw, freeze and limited terrain, it’s an overall good day. They need some of these upcoming storms to at least end as snow or I think it will get bad quick. Like pf has noted up north, it’s an empty mountain. .
