It's not a hot air mass either though. Why don't we call it fake warmth? Every air mass a cold one if you go up high enough.

This is why you are prone to believing fake news ... Reality is not what you want, or want to accept. It is, and you can decide whether you want to be realistic, or reside in some deluded state. The air temperature is 35, and if that is sensibly consider cold to the observer, it is a cold air mass. End of debate. Whether that air mass then rises to 70 that afternoon or not, doesn't change the fact... if/when that happens, the air mass is then a warm air mass. That's it. there is nothing else.

I'd say that is a cold airmass at night, and a hot airmass during the day. Any other characterization can be considered "fake" to be expected, the air is thin at elevation, negatively affects congition

Whoosh right over the top of ye dome . No one is saying the temp at the ground isn’t really happening. If it says 32, it is 32. But if it rises to 70 that afternoon, that airmass is not real and is not cold . It’s a fake cold

I wrote the same thing as the bolded. It can be hot at one point and cold at another point, all in 24 hours. Or is the argument that we just take the average temperature? Like the average temperature is 60F, but it's 30F at night and 90F by day. That average temperature is fairly useless in that scenario... it hits 60F for 15 minutes at like 10am and again at 6pm.

The airmass is not real . It’s not a cold airmass . A cold airmass stays cold during the day and doesn’t have 40 degree diurnals. Folks need to try to understand that

This is incorrect logic in the empirical sense of reality. For human sensible recognition, when it is 35 it is cold. When it is 95, it is hot. in our example of the desert, the air mass is cold a night, hot during the day. The point that is being missed is that it is the same air mass getting to a cold or hot state. If an air is always hot or always cold, than THAT is THAT air mass. The temperature is a physical representation of the average kinetic motion of the molecules and atoms. It is not fake. It is an empirical measurement of state.

What I mean is, this is in fact a +PNA. It may not look like one that we’re familiar with, but based on the coordinates it’s measured at, the SE trough, and positive height differential between Western Canada and the GOA all make it positive.

In your example, I'd argue its cold at night and hot during the day. If you are sleeping out in the desert, you really don't care why it is what it is. So you are saying it's fake cold and fake heat? I also get it from the standpoint of you living on a hill top... people saying its cold and you are still growing vegetables. That's going to get a response that this isn't real. I mean, I can be standing up at the picnic tables and it's breezy and 55F while it's frosty and 28F in the valley almost 4,000ft below... its just weather, that's how it happens. It's been happening in mountain valleys since the dawn of time... whether it's in Yellowstone or Jackson Hole, or in a hollow of CT.

Yup. The cold which materializes within the Arctic/Polar regions isn't coming from Santa or his elves, its a byproduct of prolonged radiational cooling.

We're late down here this year. Almost a full 2 weeks later than last year. Peak will prob be next week. Some areas I drive around are starting to look pretty awesome. I'll post more pics later but this is where we're at right now

But The term fake is ridiculous. Period. We all understand the concepts. But the term is horrible. And makes people sound ignorant.

Radiational cooling is a very real meteorological phenomenon. Besides the very low sun angle at high latitudes to virtually no sun (above the horizon) near the polar latitudes, radiational cooling is a big player in cold temperatures. In fact, its ultimately radiational cooling which leads to the establishment of the cool season Arctic/Polar airmasses. Nothing fake about it

I think the point has been missed this whole time. . It is fake because it is not a cold airmass. It drops because of low dew points and dry air, just as it warms rapidly . A great example is the desert. It may drip into the 30’s/40’s, but rises to 90’s/100’s. Is that a cold airmass or a hot airmass? No it’s a fake environment in both cases

Today’s 10 day averaged CFS RONI run for Nov has dropped a little to between +2.75 and +2.70. It also suggests that near future 10 day means for Nov will probably drop a little lower since all 8 of the blue lines, the most recent runs, are lower than today’s mean of the 40 lines whereas the red lines are more balanced. It also suggests a similar small drop for Nino 4 and Nino 3 for the same reason. However, unlike the other 3 regions, Nino 1+2’s blue lines are balanced suggesting little near future change upcoming for its Nov forecast mean thus implying probably a slightly even more E based Nino:

It is exactly apples to apples! Nothing is fake if it’s at your house. If your car battery dies because it is 22 degrees…no matter what the temp is 1500 FT up, is the dead battery fake? Will you be able to tell the battery, hey battery good one, good fake out, now go ahead and start my car? You see, Theres the point. Is the TOR that blew your house down fake, cuz the town next to you didn’t get a TOR? Temp is temp. Snow is snow. Rain is rain. TOR is TOR. If Kevin is shoveling 4”, and I’m seeing through translucent slush that’s a 1/4” inch thick…is his fake snow? And finally…if we tied your bare ass to a tree, and kept you out in the 23 degree cold, all night long, and your nuts were the size of peas when the sun came up, would you call that fake cold, because 1500ft above your head it was 45 degrees? Would that make any difference whatsoever to your frozen ass tied to that tree?
