check that, make that 5 inches per hour !   And 13 inches total overnight.  Imagine if that were snow.  60 inches of snow an hour.

From Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning, Islip got more than 13 inches of rain, more than the normal total for June, July and August of 11.75 inches, said Joe Pollina of the National Weather Service.

More than 5 inches of it fell in just a one-hour period, from 5 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Pollina said. Holbrook got nearly 11 inches.

That's crazy.  I didn't even get that much from Sandy and Irene combined.

Here's a couple photos from the storm down the shore last night.  It was about 45 miles from me, though the CG strike was closer.

Not sure how many people got hail, but in the storms yesterday, I saw 65 dbz. It looked like a bunch of people got hail. How was it in New Jersey? Wasn't that bad here, but it obviously had rained earlier.

No hail in the reports.  Plenty of rain though, and fairly evenly distributed at that.

Some short C-G lightning early and later the usual rumbling C-C stuff.  Not that much.

I was surprised at the amounts.  2.05 in. here on my deck.

  • 2 weeks later...

0.74" of rain so far today - looks like we will finish with the first below normal precip month since March with only 2.74" so far this month (barring a late evening t-storm) we are 1.64" below normal for NW Chesco - that said we have recorded exactly 44.00" of precip so far this year including the 80.0" of snow from winter so we are now at 12.26" above normal for the YTD
