There is almost always some mixing / sleet in big storms around here.. Or dry air makes it in somehow…lt is why it’s so hard to get 8+ inch storms around here… Good thing with this storm if there is any mixing for few hours that prob will just end up making the total accumulation stick around longer once it freezes. The temps are going to be down right cold almost all next week…

Figures the folks to our north are talking about the Canadian a lot, given it seems to pull the storm so far north that the heaviest snows are around DC, with Richmond getting several inches of sleet.

I guess we’ll see, huh?

It would certainly be easier to shovel.

Luckily, for now at least, that model (the Canadian) seems to be on an island by itself showing a near perfect phase that makes the storm so amped it pulls hard north and west and brings the mixing and freezing rain much further into the Commonwealth.

We need this trend to stop soon

The hours and hours of sleet & Freezing rain is down right scary wherever that sets up… I’m expecting some changeover to sleet in our area it almost always happens in big storms around here .. Let’s just hope it dosnt turn over to freezing rain for an extended period of time… 4 to 8 seems almost certain (crazy to say this far out)

This. While I’m trying not to hyperventilate over the insane snow totals being shown, I think it’s worth remembering that in Central VA, with a storm track moving to the OBX, sleet is a real possibility here. As you said, its happened repeatedly. While I’d love to stay all snow, I’m curious if the short range models start to pick that up better as we get closer to Saturday.

yeah, we need to halt the northern movement.  Storm is transferring into a coastal and that pulls in warm air off the ocean. Regardless, we all start w/  snow, but as the coastal forms it might go to sleet  I do not think we get those high accumulations because of sleet

You would think we’re getting nothing but ice down here the way the DC and north crew is talking about it.

Is it bad that I want it to abruptly trend sharply south into a Hampton Roads snowstorm just to spite them? emoji28.png

I'd be fine with that! A repeat of last winter! Most snow I've seen in life in a single storm!

I remember the 2016 storm-I was working that evening the day it started in Hopewell. Started as all snow, then it went to sleet for several hours and then back to all snow and like another 8" where I lived in Glen Allen.

Could happen this way again

2016 was epic.  Hard to believe we are right at the 10 year mark about.  I live near Short Pump and we had 16 inches.  Beautiful Storm
