  1. I mentioned a few days ago how that SS wave was juiced and just needed some interaction with the NS vorticity maxima rotating into the CONUS. Timing of these is everything. It’s very hard to get these right for our prospects. You need the stars to align enough to get some impacts and perfectly to get the upper echelon results.

I still feel in the margins this misses, but it’ll be tight in the end. I do like seeing the guidance ease its way back into a favorable pattern in February. This is Niño climo, so hopefully it’s a sign of things to come. I certainly haven’t thrown in the towel.

  2. Thoughts on the Ravens game…

Ravens game plan heading into the game was incorrect and definitely got this team off to a sluggish start. They played a mix of man and intermediate zone and allowed the Chiefs to find soft spots in the middle of the field, as well as allowing distance off coverage so short 4-5 yard gains were easy to come by. Good adjustment by them at halftime where they disguised blitzes and played strict man to prevent soft spots from being exposed. Problem was their first half was terrible and they caused their own issue of being on the field for way too long. That was killer, but self inflicted.

Offense was a different story and one that has rang true for too many seasons, even going all the way back to the mid-2000s…cost us the game the entire time. Play calling was bad. They were bringing blitzes from multiple packages and played two deep safety for a good chunk of the game. This SHOULD be a chance to emphasize crossing patterns, screens, and slant routes…but they just hardly ever did that. They kept running intermediate and deep and it was like the Texans first half all over again. Don’t get me started on rushing the ball 8 times with RBs. That’s coaching and it’s one of the things I hate about Harbaugh and why I think we need a change. It’s inexcusable.

Lamar I thought played an okay game. Made some huge throws and if it wasn’t for his playmaking ability, we wouldn’t have scored anything. The offensive line was battered at times by Chris Jones, and off the edge early on until the DE went out and that gave Lamar some more breathing room. Zay taunt and fumble is full on rookie coming out at the very worst time.

Biggest question marks will be McDonald coming back and signing Queen or Matabeuke.

This is a team game. They lost this as a team, but a lot of the blame goes to coaching and horrible pre-game planning and terrible offensive playcalling for 2/3 of the game. We can certainly make it back. Lamar will be fine and hungry as ever. Yes, he made some mistakes, but he was the main reason we had ANY chance in this game. If Zay scores a TD, I guarentee you this conversation isn’t happening. Chiefs have been here before and it showed. They know how to handle the pressure and they have the best playcallers and game planners in history (Reid and Spags).

Time to make some changes, especially on offense.

Defense needs MAJOR adjustments as well. The zone coverage game plan is one of the worst things we could've ever done. Not be out-done by the worst thing in letting Kelce go one on one with people. You have to bracket him. That's how New England beat them multiple times in the past. It was truly a horrible game plan out the gate and we lost our composure. KC knows how to win and they get under teams skin. You just have to let it go.

40° at my place this morning. Let’s see how high we can climb on my commute out of the valley. Stay tuned.

40F at my place, 56F near Mt Airy, 45-50F along 32, and a general upper 40s in the beltway. That higher elevation stretch on 70 was wild

I might need to add COD satellite/wv to my rotation, at least as a backup.  I've only been using it for radar.

It's very worth adding to your arsenal. It's one of my main tabs even while I'm on shift. A great tool

  6. High hit 37° after a low of 12°. I think the craziest thing is the microclimate effect of the neighborhoods across from me on Monocacy in a bowl/valley. Readings ranged from 4° to 6° but as soon as you go up the hill to my place, it “only” got down to 12°. My high was 2-3° cooler however, so welcome to science 101: Density is Cool

I’m glad to see a pro met here disputing the map. You can do whatever you want with this info, as I believe you work for NWS?

There are a number of issues with that map, particularly with southern Maryland. You may have seen my complaint earlier ITT about how my spotter reports disappeared. I E-mailed LWX asking why.

The issue seems to be that this year they started using “Dept of Highways” measurements in the PNS reports, which are not accurate IMHO. They told me that because I live next to State Highway, we both came up as “Prince Frederick 1 S” so their software must have overwritten my reports. I was told not to worry though, that my reports are still in their system. I don’t believe that explanation, as my reports are not on this map, nor on LWX site. Furthermore, I sent my report in- twice- with a timestamp after State Highway, and yet it still is not there anywhere. They used the larger total from State Highway (2.5”) to make a 2” contour over Calvert.

I reported 1.4” while State Highway had 2.5” There is zero chance State Highway is correct- all I can think of is that State Highway measures snow depth. I have clear visibility of their entire site, there is definitely no snowboard, nor any open place for them to measure.

I also questioned the lack of spotter reports for Calvert, they told me I was the only spotter that sent in a report in Calvert. I have no idea if that’s accurate or not, but it seems odd. I always see multiple reports from Calvert with any storm.

So if you see any spots on that map whose totals seem odd, check and see if it was based on a “Dept. of Highways” measurement. I doubt I was the only one with this issue.

I know people that work at LWX and I’m going to make sure they see this response. It is very important we gain the most accurate information possible, and I have reason to believe that some of these measurements are from snow depth and not storm total based on what is shown on this map.

In Texas, we used TXDot for measurements away from populated areas because we didn’t have much of a choice. With such a density of reports available in areas around Central MD, this shouldn’t be the primary method of measurement and should very well be a secondary need if no data is available. That’s my 2 cents on the matter.

Probably just a geographical error. Northern FDK county and Wash cty up in Sabillasville received just over 6"

Has to be. Otherwise, very off. Sabillasville is gorgeous btw.

Hold up. That map has FDK at over 6” with that storm. What the hell am I missing? There is no damn way I got that much snow. The radar even indicated we missed the best banding. I call significant BS on that. Unless this is both storms combined…then it would be low-balling. I’m beyond confused right now

It was probably a coating to a 1/2", but more than a trace here (at least more than 0.1", I'm pretty sure about that).  It even started to accumulate on patches of the road.

Considering the map @Terpeastjust shared, that’s probably where my difference is. I only have 9.2” but the NOHRSC has 10” over Frederick. I’m going to keep my total, but I do wonder what fell that day lol

Did you catch the 1/14 squall?  At least imby, it coated the grass and was starting to accumulate on the road a little bit.

I was at my folks on the shore, so I don’t have any record of it and can’t verify. I’d imagine we got something, but I don’t think it was much.
