  1. Need a higher res picture to enlarge but maybe a yellow mud-dauber? Unless it is a yellow jacket or white faced hornet nest I try to leave them alone. A lot of hornets and wasps are good for killing non-beneficial insects. "Solitary" ground wasps/hornets are generally beneficial for the local ecosystem.
  2. I have once again given up on lawn maintenance for the year. Focusing on the flower beds and cleaning up downed trees and branches in our woods. In ground vegetable garden was poor at best due to the wet then drought June -> July but containers did fantastic. Next year veggies are all going container and raised bed auto water.
  3. On another note, walking the dog this morning, I could not help but notice that the maple trees are already raining down pale green leaves. Quick foliage season upcoming?
  4. Nice! You go Bob, you have been the summer of yore winna'! 79/50 here. trying to wrap things up at the brewery and take the kid hiking this afternoon. cocadoodledoo.
  5. A few years ago we got our house completely re-insulated and sealed plus all new lightbulbs for free through the MassSave program. they also gave us a no interest loan for a new furnace. People should definitely take advantage of these programs while they are active. I wish we could’ve taken advantage for the great solar programs in Mass but our yard has a few too many trees.
  6. Except you will probably watch one into Florida one into Carolinas and a few recurves.
  7. Same thing all over Cape Cod. In some cases they build almost exact replicas of the older houses they tear down on the coast line.
  8. Rainy morning followed by misery mist and sheet drizzle all day today. .50” new. I would say the drought is pretty much over here.
  9. Ya' a good old direct hit from an X class solar flare should level the automation playing field on planet Earth. I mean why not right? DIT and others can wish for a 1938 Hurricane why can't I cheer on a Carrington type event?
  10. I'm guessing 50% of remaining independent bars and restaurants go under this winter. Sad but true.
  11. If furnaces were kicking on people need better home insulation.
  12. Low of 47F First 40’s since June I believe.
  13. Winter in this sub forum is like a case study course in psychoanalysis.
  14. Since we remote schooling anyway, I’ll probably head to Falmouth with the kid a few times in September. Buzzards Bay water temp in the 70’s.
  15. Absolutely stunning day here, blue sky, puffy clouds, nice breeze with temperatures in the 70s.
  16. Yeah, I'm probably going full in on the Berkshire East/Catamount/Bosquet unlimited pass tomorrow. It's a great price and I'm pretty sure the Schaefer family will ensure things stay open unless it is absolute armageddon.
  17. Ski resorts are going to be screwed if they start f'n around with season passes. Limiting sales is one thing but if you start changing the rules mid-season you are opening yourself up to lawsuits no matter how many disclaimers you have in the contract. So far no word from Berkshire East and their subsidiaries about any Covid restrictions. Makes me nervous because I only have 2 more days to buy the pass at a discount.
  18. Pretty gusty for about 10 minutes but rain was torrential.
  19. 1.8" after the T-storm that just rolled through.
  20. Got back tonight and rain gauge had 1.4" in it since we left last sunday. Probably some evaporation over the week too.
  21. I don't really need this, I just want to relax after a long drive and unpacking. 23. The $2.00 plastic hardware store gauges are as accurate as any weather stations I have owned.
