    Remember sometime in the early 2000s watching the students commute to class across the river between Allston and Cambridge. I mean dozens of students walking across at a time.

    Yes, my folks neighbor and one of the Woods Hole oceanographic institute scientists, walked way out from New Silver beach / Wild Harbor to the end of Nyes Neck on the frozen bay.

    I believe January 1976 they were racing ice boats on the Charles River basin near the hatch shell. I wasn’t allowed to go out on it but I have a picture somewhere of my father and sister standing out on the river.

    I’ve seen Buzzards Bay frozen from the East shore beaches to at least a quarter mile out a few times in my life.

    Went from 16° to 12° in the past 30 minutes.

    Yeah, I bounced from a low of 10° earlier to 16° currently.

    Definitely. Down to 10° here now with strong gusts of wind.

    Greenfield did not cancel school today. Probably because they wasted a snow day on rain a few weeks ago.

    Yes, giving teachers a long weekend is a factor in it sometimes.

    Wind is howling. I’m properly dressed and it’s cold. 3pm will be even colder. more sane than some of the bullshit snow days that have been called over the years.

    The bank thermometer downtown jumped from 12° to 14° the past hour. #sunangle.

    Absolutely. Temperature in downtown Greenfield actually jumped up 2° the past hour. As silly as it sounds, I was on the south side of the Brewery building, which is an old brick factory building and sheltered from the wind. I could actually feel the warmth of the sun on my face and the sun warming the bricks.

    I love how all of the New England ski areas are running one lower mountain lift, so they don’t have to give refunds for advanced ticket sales.
