Yeah we had some heavy rain in decent gusts but you can tell it’s not quite mixing down this low. Sounds like a freight train up above in the sky though.

I enjoy reading about the lost/abandoned ski areas of New England and found this one to be relative due to the reasonably extensive coverage of their struggles throughout the 1980's due to lack of snow.  Everything now seems to be hyped as the "most", "worst", "extreme", etc but some of us have lived through so much of all this before.  Snow lovers in the 1980's = snow lovers in the 2020's.

This was a fun quote from the page:  "Though the 1984-85 season started on December 9, there was no more skiing until the day after Christmas. The holiday skiing too was short-lived, as temperatures soared into the 70s and melted the manmade snow. Manager Dave Moore told the Holyoke Transcript-Telegram, "If Mount Tom depended on what (snow) was on the ground, it would have been out of business 25 years ago." The season likely ended after the first weekend in March."

That was a nice little ski area in the heart of the valley. Yeah, multiple bad years in a row is nothing new in SNE.

Got the phone call about an hour ago . Phil is on his way .. and this time he means bidness..:damage:

I just thought the “we are a storm” was funny.  Should be a wild ride for some.

My house is tucked in behind a 600’ hill so hopefully wind is muted here as usual.
I’m not real into damage and have my own personal PTSD from high winds.

With historic rains in between. Can't make it up.

Last summer was garbage in the valley and we followed it with a garbage winter.
I hope it’s Taos dry this summer.

The warmup looks nice. Good high pressure at times should make for some great days.

Pattern looks like dogshit though once we get into the second week of March. Very cutoff-y looking.

    Imagine that, just shocking.

I bet it locks in for a good 4 to 6 weeks too.

What a furnace on the ensembles. Hopefully the fruit trees don’t wake up.

Legit concern especially if we get a late season cold snap.

Last year as you probably know we had no peaches and very few plums or cherries on trees around here.  The apple crop was also negatively impacted.  My friend owns Headwater Cider and he could barely press last year.
Maple syrup season is also going to suck if the temperatures are not getting below freezing at night.

Maybe.  Last year we had a wet May and a near-constant rainy June, and we feared the worst.  Instead, black flies and mosquito populations were less than usual, and we had the fewest deerflies since we lived in Gardiner.  BN tick attachments also.

Oddly last summer was not bad for mosquitoes here.  The larvae probably all drowned from the constant rain.

As usual ticks were bad spring and fall but fairly scarce in the summer. Interestingly there were a lot of pet owners having flea problems last year. Our vet said it was unlike anything he’s ever seen.

Light snow has commenced up here. Bad kind of storm to be on the east slope really, but it's a bad storm in general.

Light coating here earlier but temps suck and the precipitation shield looks like it went through a grater.

Flakes and a few pellets.  34F
