  1. They had 5-6"/hr type snow for a few hours in that death band. Wish I could've been there. As I recall, there were a few towns that reported legit hail in that band, too. Pretty special.
  2. Yep. Not sure exactly how much fell in Hamden (I was in Boston then--it was awesome there, too), but my father reported his yardstick disappeared with several inches to spare. They were stuck in the house for several days before earth movers came through and cleared the roads.
  3. I loved that storm. I was 12 and I remember doing a back flip off my deck into a drift. Still, even '96 can't touch this one:
  4. 2013-14 featured a few systems with temps close to zero in BOS. It was pretty spectacular.
  5. Might be giving Reggie too much credit. Crushed it in '15, then hit the bottle hard in the postseason and never got his mojo back.
  6. Ha, my mother would probably be in that cohort. Her claustrophobia is so bad she would probably abandon the car.
  7. That event blocked up the Merritt by the tunnel. Cars couldn't get up the hill for hours. My cousin also wound up finding a hotel for the night in Westchester because the traffic was so bad.
  8. I heard rumors of a SSW event towards the end of the month. Anyone got eyes out that far? Probably just voodoo at this range anyway.
  9. Oh for sure. That few hundred feet of extra elevation/distance from the Sound often works to your advantage.
  10. Not sure it was white, but it was ridiculously cold.
  11. Funny how BDR's entire positive departure in '13 was attributable to one historic event. But that's often how it goes in the coastal plain.
  12. Yeah, my expectations are grounded in reality. Would be nice for the cold to over perform and see a few flakes. We shall see.
  13. That's an ouch in my hood, but would hardly be surprising given the time of year. Still, a very nice early season system in general.
  14. Can my lawn mower handle both my lawn and clear 4" of slop? Stay tuned...
  15. I was in sixth grade. I don't think I had a full week of school that winter. It was amazing.
  16. True, although 2012-13 sent Kevin and Scott and most of us to the brink before delivering the goods in historic fashion in early Feb.
  17. Right. I'll stand in my driveway with a hair dryer and blast each dendrite before it reaches the ground. Season salvaged.
  18. Question: can the term "torch" refer to criteria other than temperature? I'm not sure if I've ever seen it applied to dew point.
  19. Impressive dews at PWATs for the date to be sure, but temperature wise it's not that anomalous. We hit seventy on Christmas day a few years back, and almost 80 in spots in February two years ago. Those were impressive torches.
  20. That was a solid early season thump. Too bad it canceled the rest of winter until March.
  21. When was that first thump last November? Quick 6" dump and epic traffic snarl, as I recall.
  22. The world is also increasingly networked, so our ability to detect and distribute information about such events has proliferated. I'm sure you'd see that if you looked at a few decades of tornado reporting. It's possible a similar pattern emerges with other phenomena, even outside weather. News stories that would never escape the local newspaper can become national or international in nature in minutes with social networks.
