  1. Maybe, but how deep does that warm water go? Any large storm will upwell cold water in front of it. A high end cat 3, low end 4 into SNE would require a truly extraordinary, if not perfect series of events.
  2. I don't believe New England has ever had a cat 4 strike. Maybe 1635. Maybe.
  3. Looks great Steve. And yeah, coyotes are a menace. Most of the outdoor cats in my neighborhood have disappeared in the last few years. I was distressed last week to find a dead fawn in my shed that had one leg missing and another chewed up. I have no idea how it escaped its attackers, but glad it found a quiet place to expire.
  4. Yeah there's that saying that a weed is anything that grows where you don't want it to. That particularly flower (not sure what it is) just happens to like coming up in my lawn, but it does look nice in a shaded wooded area. I've been focusing on planting things that aid pollinators and hummingbirds recently. I've had a ton of ruby throats this year.
  5. What kind are they? My lace cap hydrangeas went gangbusters this year, but I got zilch from the traditional ones. Thinking it's because I didn't cut them back last fall.
  6. I certainly won't cheer on a direct hit (don't want to see destruction to life and property), but at some point it's bound to happen and a hurricane is one of the few weather phenomenon I haven't directly experienced. (Too young for Gloria, in northern VT during Bob, Irene and Sandy were kinda meh in Boston). I'm probably more excited to have hurricanes to track soon. It's a long gap between late nor'easter threats and cane season, and one can only weenie out over heat and dews so much.
  7. Yup. I think Koepka's gonna do it again. Dude is a beast.
  8. Interesting. They are all over my place.
  9. My folks planted one in their yard when my brother was born. It's as tall as the house now and a beautiful tree. Who knew all the seedlings they pull every year could be so valuable with a little more tending?
  10. I have three hives in my yard that a neighbor maintains (in exchange I get damn good honey from time to time), so pollination is not an issue lol. This is apparently the result of a hive splitting, but my neighbor isn't at home to capture the swarm. The bees seem to have calmed down, but it's a big beard and I have no interest in pissing them off by mowing nearby. We'll wait and live to mow another day haha.
  11. Was going to get my third mow in today, but there's a hive of honey bees that decided to take up residence in one of my bushes and it's a bit hairy out there atm. Must be 30-40k of them bearded on it. That said, a gorgeous day. Maples are fully leafed out, bursts of color all over the place.
  12. I installed a nice little parterre and reflecting pool. Am not sure where to build the follies. Thoughts?
  13. First mow of the season in the bag. Lawn looks great.
  14. This was riveting golf. The 12th seems to make or break so many in the last few years. So glad to see Tiger back on top.
  15. Aren't we still Ninoish? That generally does not bode well for shear and Atlantic cyclone formation.
  16. You know spring is coming when you start seeing ads for the Masters on CBS. Can't freaking wait.
  17. Florence is really starting to get that mean look this morning. Good luck to you all, stay safe!
  18. Yeah, I brought that up a couple days ago, Jerry. If you had plunked this stretch down in mid-Feb with climo temps, this would probably be the 2nd 2-3 footer for many of the posters in here and the third foot plus storm in two weeks.
  19. I find it kind of hilarious that the Valley got bent over even with an amenable thermal profile. If it ain't temps, it's fooking subby holes. Gotta find a better spot to move to.
  20. This storm has surpassed Boxing Day as my most loathed KU. Total dumpster fire.
