  1. Great call. It’s about to get real! What a nice nocturnal MCS.
  2. It’s too far out to get truly excited but the last few runs bring the remnants of Laura right up over as they phase with a mid latitude cyclone. Would be a beautiful thing!
  3. Oooh, the first low elevation snow showing up on the super long range. Obviously over amplified and not going to happen, but just exciting to see the models pulling down some really cold air. Fall is knocking on the door....
  4. In Rochester, some of the gyms are saying that it will be by appointment only. You will reserve a specific block of time for when you can be there. You have to reserve these several days in advance. At least that's how they plan to start back up. We'll see where it goes from there. I've only worked out at home for the past 20 years so no effect on me, but I feel for all my friends who are struggling to find a routine without the gym. I'm hoping things work out for you all.
  5. Tree loss is always so heartbreaking for me to watch. Those trees across the road were probably 50-70 years old. They will never be fully replaced in anyones lifetime living there now. Also, I always picture Derechos as having one very strong push of intense winds followed by lesser gusts. I'm completely amazed to see that this storm had many rounds of severe winds over a 30 minute period. I don't even understand how that happens in a storm like this. I always say I want strong storms, but thats a hard no for something like that. Just devastating...
  6. If the whole country wasnt in such disarray, the Derecho event would be getting a lot more attention. Probably one of the most powerful derechos in our lifetime to ever hit the US. Iowa needs federal assistance big time. https://littlevillagemag.com/caught-in-the-storm-in-cedar-rapids-brian-johannessen/
  7. My house is ridiculous and has zero outlets on the outside of the house. I’m looking to change that this fall and finally run power to my shed and several other places.
  8. What are the two cables I see crossing the gutter right near it?
  9. So how did you run the cables to the outside? Did you just drill right through from an interior room? I want to put up some cameras and a weather station but always get hung up on the logistics of getting power outside. So many ways to do it but all have pros and cons.
  10. This is anecdotal at best, but a warm fall sounds good to me if you want a cold winter. The winters with cold Octobers and wintry Novembers always seem to flip hard to warmth for December and January. Losing the two best months for lake effect is a crusher. Lets keep its warm through the fall and have the pattern flip hard in December and January. Thats the look I want to see at least.
  11. Doesn’t get much more real than this. Absolutely fierce looking storms/derecho and they are still getting organized!
  12. solid line of storms plowing through WNY. Looks like @BuffaloWeather is getting hit hard. Any reports?
  13. Would love to catch some bonus tropical downpours today. I havent had to water in a few weeks which is a huge change from early and mid july.
  14. Well what if all the private mail delivery places went under and folded? Seems like it would be wise to have a backup system in place as mail delivery is about as critical as it gets.
  15. I'm confused by this post. What don't we follow and who is worried about excessive rain? There is zero risk of flooding for our area.
  16. It should be viewed as a service, just like the Navy, the marines, the red cross, etc etc. Why do we expect them or even care if they turn a profit? Our roads and sewer systems don't make any money, but we sure as hell need them and use them. It's time to stop pretending the post office is a business and treat it like the service it is.
  17. Un****ing believable. I firmly believe I would have intercepted and got photos of this tornado if I hadn’t been recovering from surgery. I know that area extremely well. This will likely be the best chance I’ll ever get living here and I slept through it. So incredibly disappointed. It was the only nap I took all week too.
  18. It’s actually up 2,400% since Monday. An 8k investment Monday morning would have been $200,000 if you sold it yesterday at its peak.
  19. What a fantastic light show these storms over Ontario are putting on. I have a gorgeous view from my patio. Lot more thunderstorms this year compared to the past few.
  20. Jesus. I was asleep at the wheel for this one. Was literally taking a nap (had an emergency appendectomy this past weekend). I definitely could have intercepted whayever that was. Damnit all.
  21. The post office is actually something affected by; and useful during a pandemic. You can throw funding at them forever and I’ll think it’s money well spent
  22. Didn’t want to imply the dems were innocent. That just happens to be an unsightly budget from the GOP considering the current state of affairs. Millions of people could be evicted because of something completely out of their control. The government has to step up in that situation. Not buy new planes and warships. If there was finally going to be a bill with no extra fat, now is the time to do it.
  23. There is always some extra bullshit spending but this seems a little more egregious than usual. I can actually tolerate a few million here or there for side programs that may tangentially help out but aren’t directly related to main cause. This however, seems a little absurd. The GOP doesn’t give a **** about us. They just want to further their military agendas and buy votes.
  24. Don’t forget this critical part of the new COVID19 bill.... **eye roll**
  25. Remember hurricane Michael in 2018 went from a depression to a cat 5 in like 36 hours. The Gulf of Mexico is a tinder box for tropical systems. I’d definitely be nervous living down there this time of year.
