I work with plenty of people in there 60s who are terrified of catching this and having permanent damage or dying 20 years premature (and they have no serious comorbidities) Any person who doesn’t take this seriously Is foolish. I’ve seen enough stories on healthy people ending up in very rough shape, the chances are low but far from zero. I’m not taking any chances. 250k is a huge number for a disease that didn’t exist in this country 10 months ago. Drop in the bucket my ass, these are real people dying. Republicans are so crass and heartless, it’s unreal.....and they take pride in it. It’s bizarre and sad.

Trump has said many times that we test too much. And we need to slow down testing. On what planet could any sane human suggest such a thing during a pandemic. Testing is the single most important thing we have until a vaccine is developed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, testing is the key to beating this...and we (and the rest of the world) blew it completely. We still haven’t tested even half the country 9 months into this thing.. not good enough. The fact that Trump could ever suggest this confirms that he is treating this like some golf game with the rest of the worlds leaders (and as usual, he’s still losing) which is sickening. He doesn’t care if people get sick or die, just as long as no one knows about it and we don’t broadcast the numbers. And then when he does try to spin it, he erroneously will say no one has tested more than us; which is both false per capita, and not something we should be bragging about anyway. It’s just so bad. There is no worse person to handle a crisis where science and empathy are critical.

Vortmax. You are smarter than this. The Trump admin may have taken the bare minimum of actions during this pandemic but to defend Trump is laughable. I can pull up all the times he said it would go away. The times he said it was just one guy and it would soon be zero. Him claiming it would disappear with warm weather. Him being reluctant to bring 15 people from the cruise ship ashore because it would make the numbers look bad (lol, he was worried about 15 people and we now have 180,000 cases a day). Him saying we will open back up by easter. Him calling it hoax. Etc etc. Why defend Trump on this topic? He’s been an absolute abomination. You know it. I know it. Give it up, it’s embarrassing.

You’re talking about too different things. Just because they aren’t making money doesn’t mean they have the staff or supplies to handle a pandemic size load of sick covid patients.

This argument is always a little interesting. Your vote counts, if every single democrat felt that way and didnt vote, we wouldnt be a blue state. Someone has to be voting, obviously. It not like NY is blue regardless of who shows up at the polls. NY just happens to have an enormous amount of democrats because of NYC But I completely understand your premise and agree it should be a straight popular vote!

They often say there are 5-10 times more cases than are actually reported. So are we already at 1 million cases a day? I actually think 500k cases a day is right around the corner too. The US chose herd immunity, a bold and dangerous strategy. Our hospitals are about to get destroyed. This is finally the actual pandemic. And somehow we are not much better prepared than 6 months ago.

This is actually critical. If Biden only gets 270 there is a huge chance a few faithless electors won’t vote for him and then Trump takes it. We need a serious buffer. Can you imagine the riots?! Would completely dwarf the BLM movement. Scary times to be honest.

You could be right, but I'm a confessed germaphobe so its hard for me to tell how a normal person behaves. Every scenario you mentioned makes my skin crawl. I was a germaphobe long before this pandemic and would certainly wash or sanitize my hands after every scenario you listed (or at least be cognizant of it and wash my hands at the next available opportunity.) Maybe thats just me..... and if it is, then the rest of the world is gross and needs to step up their game. I joked when this pandemic started that now everyone gets to feel the way I feel everyday, lol. I've been training my whole life for this..

I disagree. Hand sanitizer is around every turn. I use it a dozen times a day (just out of habit now). There are probably 50 hand sanitization stations in my work place. It's at the entrance to every store. Peoples hands are probably the cleanest they've ever been. All I see everywhere are people cleaning their hands. If anything I feel like people are completely underestimating normal talking, that's what is spreading this. Not coughing, not sneezing, just regular old conversation.

Not completely, but I think it means that this mode of transmission accounts for a miniscule amount of spread. I have kind of agreed with this since the beginning. Surfaces are not virus friendly, and each touch inherently has less of the virus on it as some is left behind, some is destroyed, and some is transferred to a new surface. I try my best to not touch my eyes and mouth with my hands these days which I'm sure also helps in the rare circumstance that I have enough on my hands to cause an issue. Additionally, I would expect it takes more virus to get infected via your eyes or mouth than via inhalation.

There is certainly a lot of pain coming down the tracks but nowhere near the fear mongering scenario you just typed out. The whole world is in this mess together. If this was somehow just a US problem I might agree with you, but the US is literally too big to fail at this point. If we go down, everyone goes down, and that just isnt happening....

I got my first antibody test in May at Well Now. It was a very smooth and well run process. https://wellnow.com/ This test was covered in full under the CARES act. I'm not sure if that is still how it works. Even without the CARES act, this is what I'm finding online "COVID-19 tests are available at no cost nationwide at health centers and select pharmacies. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act ensures that COVID-19 testing is free to anyone in the U.S., including the uninsured. Additional testing sites may be available in your area." My second antibody test and nose swab occured when I was admitted to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy in Late July.

While it doesnt sound fun to be tested weekly, the alternative hasnt exactly been a picnic and things appear to be spiraling into uncharted territory as we speak. In a perfect scenario, weekly testing could potentially knock this thing out in 6-8 weeks, so it's not like we would have been testing everyone forever. For the record, I've had two antibody tests and one nose swab so far. Can confirm the nose swab is no fun but only takes 10 seconds. Negative on all 3.

You say we are missing key points and then make a summary that basically says we should be testing more and testing is probably the key to beating this thing. We appear to be in agreement. Not sure why you can't just say "yeah, more testing would be good"....thats the gist of it.

Alright, just checking to see where you stand. If the government told me in February that a new virus was spreading and it was hard to spot because it sometimes spreads asymptomatically, therefore they would begin an aggressive plan to test each American as frequently as possible with the end goal of testing every available US citizen once a week until things were under control I would have felt very relieved to know there was a plan and they were on top of things. I don't see why Americans would have been against that. If the government offered that plan in lieu of shut downs, who wouldnt be onboard. Testing is and always will be the best option for managing this virus in its first year. And testing has been pretty poor thus far.
