LOL at NWS Blacksburg forecast discussion... National Weather Service Blacksburg VA 640 PM EST Sat Jan 22 2022 .LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... As of 300 PM EST Saturday... A mammoth area of high pressure (near 1040 mb as it crosses from Canada into the northern Plains), is expected to expand south and east across the central and eastern CONUS for mid- week bringing another round of bitter cold. The airmass is similar to the last one with temperatures of M20-M30 deg C across the Great Lakes and Ontario and M10 to M20 degrees C into the Ohio Valley and New England. The mid- Atlantic will once again have an opportunity to test the single and sub-single digits (deg F) for overnight lows beginning Wednesday night with daytime highs failing to climb above freezing. Wednesday and Thursday appear to be the coldest days with some moderation toward the weekend. Another complex northern stream and southern stream shortwave tag-up is possible for Friday...but if past trends are a reflection, the southern stream feature may once again get suppressed. There always seems to be a model member that forecasts a stormagedon in the long range... so be careful little eyes what you see. The chicken littles will come out to play. At some point the outlier will be right, but keep in mind a blind hog will find an acorn given a little time.

A little spillover/padding from the lakes... 01/03 - 1.0 01/04 - 2.3 01/07 - 4.0 01/17 - 8.0 01/18 - 0.2 Total - 15.5 -
that would be a sorta breezy day...
-
Yep, once the snow started here yesterday precip never stopped for 19 straight hours, sadly about 3-4 of those hours were a sleetfest knocking down totals. It was even snowing (and accumulating) with nothing showing on the radar last night. Final was 8.0 on 1.30 liquid, could have been in the 12+ range had it all stayed snow.

That front page for NWS Baltimore/Washington should be screen shot a few times, may never see those combination of warnings for a long, long time.

I'm at work, but it has been snowing here last 3 hours plus, BIG flakes, must be the ULL? This after several hours of heavy sleet. Just a eyeballed estimate, I'd say 8-9 inches on ground now. Funny thing is last 30 minutes the radar looks clear, but snowing it be.
-
To bad it couldn't be a severe thundersnowstorm warning...
-
I remember V Day 2007, sleet all day and 15 degrees..... grrrr
-
Sadly have flipped to mostly sleet here. 6 inches on the money as the flip happened. Temp is 23.1 degrees.
-
Close! I just measured, a new 2.3 since 1 pm, 4.3 total since it started. Temp is up to 21.3 from 19.0 at 1 pm.
-
-
It is pouring here now, easily 2" hour rates, I'll measure at 3 pm for a 2 hour measurement.
-
Just took first measurement, 2.0 inches here and snowing pretty hard. 19.0/17.0

Just sitting back and watching the show

Down to 2/3's snow cover here after yesterday's 33 and rain event. We never crossed 33 until it stopped raining and then only climbed to 41 for a short period around 11pm before wind shift and temps tumbled back into mid 20's. That gave the remaining cover a nice solid 'concrete' persona that I had to chisel into for a water equivalent this morning. Currently 25.3 after a 24.8 low.
-
33.2 and rain here, JUST missed...
-
Yes, I have these. Still pull them out from time to time when the winter turns crappy to relive the 'good ones'.

Lock it

Currently 6.8/5.5, overnight low was 5.5 here.
