Saw your post just now. I've gotten burned from all of this. Literally maybe a half inch since early Dec. BTW I wanted to ask you if you don't mind. What kind of weather station (I think you use one) do you use to be an observer. I know you also work as a local emergency Mgr. (Thx for that). My old Davis is about done. Its been through a dozen hurricanes. About all that works are the anemometer (the direction part is whacked) and the pressure and temp sensors. Its been good and was mobile in my car back in the 2000's when I went storm chasing so its been beat up. This may be it's last year. Might mount it on top of a 65 ft Eastern pine on my property to get high level wind speeds lol. Hope we all get snow before the freeze sets in. No 2013/2014 repeats!! Take care

I had a Davis for almost 20 years, but it gave up the ghost a couple of years ago and I never replaced it. At the time it was the best of the best, but I've read and been told that there are several comparable makes out there now that are less expensive, but I can't really recommend one without trying it out. I have been threatening to buy a new one, just haven't gotten around to it. If you get a new station, let me know what you buy and how you like it. And if I get a new one before you, I will do likewise.
As far as my reporting to CoCoRaHS, I am required to use a manual 4" gauge that is the same as the other 10's of thousands of members across the country use. It sucks going out at 7 AM to check the gauge and snowboard in the winter, especially as I get older, but it's my small part of contributing.
I retired from EMA three years ago, but still am involved as a volunteer, but only on the weather side. The nice thing about bring retired is that I am free to chase regionally instead of being stuck locally. I got lung cancer in late '22, but caught it early, and retired as soon as I turned 65 (Jan '23.) It came back in July '24, but treatment once again knocked out and I'm living my best life, enjoying chasing, fishing, mushroom hunting, vegetable gardening and traveling with the wife. I also volunteer with the IU cancer center (even though I get treatments at Parkview), lobbying for more research funding and reviewing grants, since that's what I used to do at EMA. I also do advocate of promoting screenings which allows for early detection. Since that's what happened to me, I feel like I need to pass it on,
Sorry about the life story, but it's really meaningful for me to promote cancer screenings, because it does suck.
I'm REALLY not looking forward to the next week tempwise, especially without a nice snowfall to go with it. Hopefully, that southern storm will baby step enough north for you to get in on the goods. There's not much hope up here I'm afraid, other than maybe a turd duster. Keep in touch. Oh, and have fun getting that anemometer up in that tree! I'm done after about 20 feet, thank you!
