  1. Or just cancel all Winter weather completely.
  2. He's just a miserable troll trying to cancel Winter since late November. Some of the best skiing I've ever done has been in March. The most snowfall I've ever seen in one month was in April. The snow sports season here in New England lasts from late October to June.
  3. I skied at Mohawk Mountain today with my son. Beautiful bluebird sunshine with the temperature right around 32F. Suprisingly snowmaking was ongoing all day long on unopened trails. It was a mix of groomed granular and some packed powder on Wildwood which had snowmaking on it last night.
  4. It looks like Saddleback got the loan needed to reopen: https://www.boston.com/news/skiing/2020/01/27/heres-the-latest-on-saddleback-mountain-in-maine
  5. It's January 28th and the Spring equinox is on March 19th, but yeah Spring in a few weeks.
  6. In Germany, you're only allowed to have a family member buried for a limited amount of time, before disinterment and cremation. I remember when my uncle passed away in Germany, he wanted cremation partly for this reason.
  7. The Avianca jet was the first 707 I'd seen up close at that point. This plane was built in 1967 and second hand owned by the time of the crash. I never flew in one, but did go inside SAM970, the first presidential jet Air Force One. It's rare to see a large jetliner crash site with no fire damage.
  8. Stratton, Maine used highway grader's to clear snow in April of 2007. It was so wet and heavy, snowplows couldn't do the job.
  9. Definitely winding down in Colorado sometime in June.
  10. Not a single one, guaranteed. The ski area's around here survive on snowmaking, so deep snow is made whenever possible. Man-made snow can also be made dense and water/warmth resistant. I'll be at Sundown on Thursday for the first time this season. Usually they cover all runs with very deep snow. The only place in Connecticut that might not do so well is Powder Ridge, it's very far South and not strong on Snowmaking.
  11. I skied in Summer ski camp in Europe in July of 1985. I skied at Stubai, Austria, Zermatt, Switzerland, Tignes, France and ValSenales, Italy. Currently the only area still offering skiing all Summer is Zermatt. The other areas don't have enough snow cover remaining on their glacier's past August 1st to allow for skiing all Summer. Global warming might be increasing the precipitation, but Summer snow levels are higher, with rain falling on glacial ice.
  12. You're latest avatar is stupid. Keep us informed on how many ski areas close from the thaw.
  13. The streets around here still have snow from December.
  14. Steady light snow here and 30F. 1/4" on all surfaces.
  15. Munich Haus if you like German food. The schnitzel platter is especially good.
  16. I like that place, but I'm having a hard time with the carpet on the quad. I can't maintain my balance when loading the lift. I'm going to get in a few days at Sundown, strengthen my legs and try skiing there again in Late January.
  17. Freewheeler yesterday at Butternut, untracked groomer and nobody on the trail:
  18. Flying Cloud, Mini Dole and UMass aren't opened. Can't say I remember those runs being closed in January. If you know the dates you are skiing, BE offers discounts for advanced purchase. Use their calendar to reload you're RFID card.
  19. I skied at Butternut today with my son. It was firm but edgeable groomer. The area received quite a bit of freezing rain earlier in the week. It wasn't really crowded with minimal waiting at lifts.
  20. I'm at Butternut Basin, severe icing on I-90 above around 1,400'. Probably about 1/2" of ice with some broken trees.
  21. Part two in early December was all snow here with some of the heaviest snow rates I've seen in Enfield. It's only 12/31. Even if January isn't good, we get some of the biggest snowfalls here in March. I'm at 20" with three months of potential snowfall yet to go. To each his own I guess.
