  1. I skied in Summer ski camp in Europe in July of 1985. I skied at Stubai, Austria, Zermatt, Switzerland, Tignes, France and ValSenales, Italy. Currently the only area still offering skiing all Summer is Zermatt. The other areas don't have enough snow cover remaining on their glacier's past August 1st to allow for skiing all Summer. Global warming might be increasing the precipitation, but Summer snow levels are higher, with rain falling on glacial ice.
  2. I like that place, but I'm having a hard time with the carpet on the quad. I can't maintain my balance when loading the lift. I'm going to get in a few days at Sundown, strengthen my legs and try skiing there again in Late January.
  3. Freewheeler yesterday at Butternut, untracked groomer and nobody on the trail:
  4. Flying Cloud, Mini Dole and UMass aren't opened. Can't say I remember those runs being closed in January. If you know the dates you are skiing, BE offers discounts for advanced purchase. Use their calendar to reload you're RFID card.
  5. I skied at Butternut today with my son. It was firm but edgeable groomer. The area received quite a bit of freezing rain earlier in the week. It wasn't really crowded with minimal waiting at lifts.
  6. I'm skiing with my son on Thursday either at Butternut or Catamount. Should be pretty looking skiing with all the freezing rain that area received.
  7. 1" of sleet, which I count as snow. 20" YTD.
  8. The buyers of Saddleback need to raise four million dollars to close the deal by late January. Two million by December 16th, and another two million dollars by late January. Color me sceptical. https://wgme.com/news/local/saddleback-buyers-seek-2-million-before-sale-deadline?fbclid=IwAR2Trt5rzQyirpXkhkZbPLQKl4lUXvzWxtAqqvhLKI2-RLde34FrvGyJG0Q
  9. 15" storm total here in my part of Enfield.
  10. For the CT folks, Mohawk Mountain is opening on Saturday. One TTB run and Nutmeg. $30 lift tickets for skiing from 8:30 - 4:00. Not all that common for a November opening at Mohawk.
  11. I was at the ski expo on Thursday. The Western Massachusetts ski area's don't come to the show because their market is Hartford/Springfield/Albany.
  12. Berkshire East is opening on Saturday, with Deer Run, Outback, Mohawk, Chief and Bobcat. $45 tickets. I'm going for my first day of the season.
  13. I started out my son just before age 2 at Mowawk Mountain. He also took lessons at Killington and Sugarloaf. He loves skiing and is now much better than Dad.
  14. The Cupsuptic T-bar isn't very steep and serves a nice collection of blue runs. Cupsuptic T-bar:
  15. Saddleback is replacing the Cupsuptic T-bar with a new one. Personally I'd rather see a chairlift, but you can access the Summit via a cut across to the Kennebago Quad. I've done this lots of times during wind events. This is probably why they are keeping it.
  16. Loved the tbar. About halfway up there was a steep section that would briefly tug hard. Some people would fall there The biggest problem was the windblown T-bar track at the Summit. Frequently there was nothing but ice at the summit.
  17. Saddleback on 5/1/15, they were closed and we skied at Sugarloaf. We went past Saddleback on the way home.
  18. Closing day and Saddleback's last day of operations. 4/18/15
  19. I'm up late at night with pain from my PLS disease, so I post late when I can't sleep. My first time at Sugarloaf was 12/89, but I started skiing in 1983. I was at Saddleback on closing day on 4/18/15, I didn't think they would be closed for 5 years from that point. The major issue with Saddleback is the lack of lodging space during the Winter. Saddleback is a ski area located in a snowmobiling town. It's very difficult to get lodging in Rangely during the Winter. Sugarloaf has a huge bed capacity, Saddleback does not. Most of my days at Saddleback were in Spring, after snowmobiling was done, or as a day trip from Sugarloaf. I probably have about 40 days in at Saddleback. It's my son's favorite ski area in New England.
  20. Killington is making snow TTB through Snowdon right now. I would think it might open by Sunday.
