  1. These are the average January temperatures since the year 2000: Caldwell N.J. 30.4 Islip N.Y. 31.5 Newark 32.8 Kennedy 33 Central Park 33.4 LaGuardia 34.1 3 things stick out to me. One, Newark is colder than Central Park, possibly because Central Park daytime highs are higher with no foliage. Two, the heat island affect. You would think Islip would be warmer than Central Park and Newark. Islip has more of an ocean influence but it apparently can't make up for the highly dense urbanization of the more inland areas like Newark and Central Park. Three, LaGuardia is a degree warmer than Kennedy even though Kennedy has more of an ocean influence which in the winter is a milder influence.
  2. Has anyone figured how Central Park winter temps compare to surrounding areas? If they read about the same, then it would seem to indicate the foliage is definitely making a difference in the warmer months. If the high temps are cooler than surrounding areas even in winter, then that is something to ponder why.
  3. Maybe they figure the foliage only affects it about 1/2 the year, so no rush. Actually this leads me to think how the temperatures compare to other stations during winter months.
  4. 77 degree high here so far today.
  5. Hit 70 degrees here today. Feels very mild out tonight. If the sun comes out tomorrow, we may finally get those temps well into the 70s.
  6. I think the first 40s of the season for Central Park will occur this Sunday and Monday night
  7. 69 degrees and cloudy here, looks like another day of cloudiness holding temps. down a bit.
  8. While we have mild 70s, parts of the west are shivering. The Lake Tahoe area can expect temperatures in the teens tonight.
  9. It looks like some of the inland areas could finally get a frost next week. A little late
  10. Did not expect to have overcast and drizzle this morning.
  11. Looks like in about a week we will be getting into a chillier than normal period.
  12. Looks like a gloomy, somewhat raw type weekend, especially Sunday.
  13. Could be quite breezy along the coast this weekend
  14. Looks like about 10 days before chilly or cold weather moves in.
  15. 56 degrees this morning, cooler than I thought it would get but mild for this time of year. Last decent rain was almost 2 weeks ago. So the trend continues here of big rain totals in a 24 hour period and then very little for weeks.
  16. If Newark makes it to 70 degrees today, I am going to think there may be shenanigans going on.
  17. Currently I am in the Greenwich-- Stamford area and temps are in low 60s. My house in long Island it is 70.
  18. It feels like September 4th not October 4th outside.
  19. Not so much. Newark is usually higher by a good amount. At least in my area.
  20. In recent times, hurricane Bob was impressive looking with a well defined eye as it passed to the east of the Maryland Delaware coast. Not as well defined looking as Sam.
  21. It seems the highly urbanized area of eastern New Jersey and parts of the city, are getting temperatures more like areas a 100 miles to the south, at least during the warmer months.
  22. I guess overcast skies kept that Albany temperature so much cooler today.
  23. Got up to 80 today, pleasantly warm. Nice at night with temps the past few mornings in the 40s and 50s. Back down to 73 now.
  24. Starting to see some color, but still lots of green.
