  1. The rest of this work week looks to have daytime temperatures some 10 degrees below normal. Only about 3 months to late. Currently 48 and light rain here, ugly.
  2. Storm total here 3.43 inches. Meanwhile it is May 1 and snow falling in upper Great Lakes.
  3. Down to 29.10 here, getting some thunder.
  4. 3.30 inches of rain here so far, still raining.
  5. 2.03 inches of rain here.
  6. 51 degrees, wind gusting to 31mph and rain. Qualifies for a miserable weather day.
  7. Storm total up to 1.76 here.
  8. I believe there are examples of the UHI all the time. The next time there is a quiet clear night, check the temperature difference between the rural area and the nearest urban city. Having said that both are probably rising at similar rates over the years because our climate in the northeast, at least as far as I am concerned, has gotten milder and wetter.
  9. 1.27 inches of rain here so far and raining hard.
  10. Looks like this chilly damp weather will enable April to not be the warmest on record. (Central Park) Still the overall mild trend continued.
  11. .13 inch of rain so far, heavier stuff toward tomorrow morning. Could be wind driven especially along the coast.
  12. I understood the worst of the precip. will be tomorrow morning early. Very wind swept rain. Then it slackens and another round later Sunday.
  13. Extreme hail in parts of Florida (Melbourne area). Unusual for down there.
  14. Looks like temperatures could be like that in the entire area on Saturday.
  15. Cool late April day with my high only 56. Didn't really respond much to the sun coming out.
  16. 39 was my low this morning and it looked like some of the rooftops may have had a little frost. Nothing but dew otherwise. Would not be surprised if there was frost in some of the rural inland areas of both Nassau and Suffolk. I see mid 30s in the Muttontown area of northern Nassau.
  17. Yes I really brought it up to show how radiational cooling can really make a big difference at times, the difference between more urban and more rural locations. There is no doubt that all areas have been getting milder and wetter in our location.
  18. Brookhaven National Labs (on Long Island) still has an average January temperature below 30 degrees. I think one reason why is the recording station is not at an airport or urban area but rather in the middle of a large open field. I am sure they get very good radiational cooling. January 22, 1961 Brookhaven hit a record low of -23 degrees. The same night Newark hit 5 above, Laguardia 9 above and Kennedy 13 above. Now that is some difference. Here is their website for anyone interested. https://www.bnl.gov/weather/
  19. Had another light shower pass thru a little while ago, now it looks like some pretty good showers around Port Jefferson over the sound toward Ct.
  20. Sun breaking thru the clouds, 2.12 inches of rain.
  21. Stilll raining here, 1.70 inches so far.
  22. Still waiting for the rain here.
  23. 58 the high here, a rare cooler than normal day.
  24. 70 the high here today. Now down to 57.
  25. I would not be surprised if record high minimums become more numerous in Central Park, especially in the warmer months, as the UHI affect increases.
