  1. The SPC has a big part of northern Iowa in the enhanced severe region, but this morning's HRRR and 3kNAM are both capped dud's for most of Iowa.
  2. Had a bit of streaky lightning with thunder this morning, but the storms passed through with little rain (0.04"). I'm afraid tonight's storms will remain north and northeast of my area.
  3. 00z Euro is finally out. The general consensus appears to be close to this, if not a bit more in southern WI. It's looking iffy for Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
  4. I'm liking the more active pattern models are showing late this week into next week.
  5. The air is dry (dew 49º), but it's pretty warm out there. Blazing sun, very little wind, and 88º feels quite toasty.
  6. Our dew held steady around 60º this morning, but it has finally dropped into the 40s as the second wave of drier air sweeps in.
  7. The dry air sweeps in tomorrow morning and will remain for several days. With dews in the 40s and 50s, mornings and evenings should be pretty pleasant.
  8. I was lucky to have a nice, little cell move over me last hour. There was a bit of thunder and 0.25" of rain. It's my first rain this month.
  9. A little teaser from this morning's op Euro.
  10. A local met said this is the first year since 1976 in which Cedar Rapids recorded no rainfall during the first week of June.
  11. The Euro has a deep upper trough pulling 20s/30s dewpoint down into Iowa next week. While that would feel great, it also means no rain until at least late June. Models show our only rain chance is a few spotty cells Tuesday afternoon.
  12. It's looking bleak for rain here through mid month.
  13. Cedar Rapids officially hit 90º for the first time this afternoon.
  14. It's shocking that 1993 was actually just as slow, severe-wise, as this year up to this point. All I remember about '93 was how it stormed and rained constantly all summer. I was golfing a lot that summer and the courses were always flooded. It seems '93 was pretty dead, but then Mother Nature flipped the switch in early June. Unfortunately, 2021's line will likely end up somewhere in the blank area at the bottom.
  15. So, apparently, it's going to rain and storm in Texas and Louisiana all summer, too? Let's spread it around a bit.
  16. It has been storming across eastern Texas for two months.
  17. This morning's Euro has our temperature rising every day for the next ten days. It's looking pretty toasty by late next week. It also has little to no rain for many of us from Iowa to Michigan.
  18. I have to haul all my containers/pots into the garage tonight and cover a bunch of annuals I've recently planted in the ground. I thought for sure I was done with this two weeks ago.
  19. This morning's 0.70" of rain (with a bit of thunder at the start) has boosted my May total to an above-average 4.52". From May 14th-27th, it has rained every day except for one. Of course, that includes even a tiny bit of rain at 12:05am.
  20. The RDPS, NAM, and GFS are all now showing the temp struggling to get out of the low to mid 40s Friday across eastern Iowa. Yikes!
  21. Some red moved over me on radar, but the storm was pretty tame. There was a bit of lightning and thunder, plus 0.39" of rain. There was a solid breeze as the gust front moved through, but it was fairly calm during the storm. In a quiet year like this, I'll take it.
  22. For much of the last week the Thursday system looked like the first chance of real thunderstorm action this year, possibly severe. That's still true from Nebraska into northern Missouri, but up here I'm now just hoping some decent rain holds together as the storms dive well south.
  23. Last week Walmart and Menards were 90% mask. Today they are around 50%.
