We had no ice this morning off of Russ Cornett and Poplar Grove at 4000 ft. Went down Russ Cornett to Winklers Creek to go into Boone and was shocked by the amount of ice on the trees.
CAD ftw.

Either way as long as it's not 70+ I'm happy right now. Chances are even with a great pattern we'd be on the outside looking in this early. Rather save it for later.
With the NAO heading slightly negative toward neutral and PNA falling to near neutral long range it fits with a more average, boring zonal flow. The AO looks to remain negative throughout.
Yeah and the spread in the indices are pretty good also. I say let's get well into December to get a great pattern going. No need to rush things. Seasons in seasons.

It depends on your interests, but when it comes to active winter weather, it’s hard to get much better than the cams in the mountains of NNE. Below are some I have hot linked in my bookmarks bar, and some of the guys here in the NNE thread have their own as well if you want something outside from the resorts. Bolton Valley’s cam has been particularly impressive now that they’ve turned it on for the season, it seems like they might have upgraded it. It streams live in HD on Youtube – this morning we had it on our 70” screen, checking on the snowfall as we got ready for touring, watching the coming and going of the people skinning, seeing what mountain operations was up to, etc. It’s above 2,000’ which is nice. The Lincoln Peak Snow Cam at Sugarbush doesn’t stream live, but it’s up around 4,000’ is great for checking on the snow line/accumulation in conjunction with other cams.

Hey guys what webcams are up to that are good to observe the weather in NNE?

Isotherm another excellent winter write up. Thank you for the info and well thought out explanation for your basis.

The flow from the west has started to pick up. I wouldn't be surprised if some right along the boarder start to see some kind of precipitation soon but the precipitation is banking up from the SW because of the orientation of the low.
-
Looks like heading into tonight through tomorrow morning the boarder counties will get in on some upslope snow. The flow will not be a true NW flow but will kind of rotate as the system pulls northward. Most places should see some type of flake action along the boarder. It shoukd make for a festival feel there. Good luck.

You can see the cold air working down the spine of the apps with each radar return.

How so?
Well we usually have warm days leading up to snow. I'm definitely not use to it being cold day after day after day especially this early in the season. So this season will be lots of firsts for me I think.

Light snow has started here in Wausau Wisconsin. Very tiny flakes but instantly sticking to everything. This is a lot different than back in WNC.
-
This setup is not a typical NW flow setup. It is primarily a system with cold air crashing in behind it. The flow behind the main batch of moisture is kind of a westerly flow. These setups are very hard to predict for the mountains because if you get a delay in the cold air it is a cold chasing moisture type setup.
-
That was quick. We have a dusting on the cars now. The snow has really picked up here. Moderate snow falling currently.
-
Light snow has started here with a temp right at 32 degrees. The wind has really picked up also.
-
Temp has fallen here to 33 degrees. Looking for the snow to come in overnight.

The cold coming in on the euro is pretty extreme for this time of the year. Would be getting real close to some single digit readings.

Snowing at a decent clip here in north central Wisconsin. Cars are covered and the grass is turning white. Temp right at 31 degrees.

First winter weather advisory for the area tomorrow for northern Wisconsin. I am looking forward to seeing the flakes fly.

Could you post a link to this please. I am hunting for some land or a small cabin up in the Maine area and I am trying to do some research on the best spot for great winter weather. Thank you.
