Be careful what you wish for. Freezing conditions destroy the leaf's ability to manufacture the red and purple pigments.
Yeah true. It's like going from summer to Fall overnight. Usually the process is a but slower but I am very surprised at just how green everything is down here. It's a double edged sword.

Looks like a couple of freezes the next few nights will help a lot with the leave season.

Snow is steady here this late afternoon in Wausau. Temp has dropped to right at 32 degrees and the snow is starting to stick a bit of the grass.

Where did you move from again?
I moved from Western North Carolina in the mountains. I took a railroad job here in Wisconsin.

Very nice! How do you like living in the north vs the south where you came?
It is growing on me. At first everything being relatively flat was getting to me because I was use to mountains being around me, but as time goes by I have adjusted. If I can transfer I might be looking to go up into the Gladstone area of the UP.

A nice cold rain up here this morning with a temp of 38 degrees. It's crazy the cutoff from fall weather to summer like weather.

Maybe the light at the end of the tunnel today,Euro has lower heights, trough setting up over the east at day 8 lasting through day 10.591dm death ridge hangs tough through day 7 before it gets here though.
The trough trended a bit stronger today vs yesterday so we'll see.
Yeah the Euro has been bumping up heights in the West the past few runs and digging the trough a bit more in the east. Let's get that look under 5 days and see how it goes.

Just in time for the fall chairlift rides up Rib Mountain. They start for the season this week on Thursday night.Yep I live about 10 minutes from Rib mountain off of exit 190. I was pleasantly surprised at the elevation up at Rib mountain when I visited there this summer. It is beautiful up there.

Already in the upper 80s at ORD, so 90 looks likely today.
As far as Thursday, I'd go as far as to say mid 90s aren't out of the question assuming no impacts from cloud cover.
Yeah when I moved to Wisconsin I didn't think I would be working in temps near 90 in September... For us up in Wausau Wisconsin that looks to end tonight though. Storms will be blowing through with temps dropping into the 60s for highs for several days

Wilmington NC has officially had its wettest year on record going back to 1871. Still has over 3 months to go. Currently sitting at 86.22
The state Record is in the Mountains. Roseman has that claim to fame at 129.6 set in 1964Rosman has a micro climate of it's own here in WNC. Almost like a temperate rainforest climate.

You can see on the radar where the moisture really deepens in the mountains coming from the east. Pretty impressive for sure. HT that is impressive already. Stay safe out there fellas.

Flash flood watch just posted for the mountains.
Yeah I noticed that. The thing with this is that subtle changes in the track will cause big changes on precipitation amounts. Also the models usually always underestimate the amount of precipitation coming in on the leeward side of the mountains.

Thank you. Family is more important than money so it's an easy decision to make.

Met! Good to see you. You heading this way anytime soon?
Yeah I am finalizing my plans to head back home now. As it goes with HR things are never done quickly enough. My moms cancer came back and I need to be back home. I hate I'm going to miss this event. There are a lot of changes that can continue down the road. Nothing is set in stone currently but if it moves south and keeps that moisture fetch off the Atlantic and the mountains are in the Northeast side of this thing then we could be seeing flooding like we did in 2004. Especially since the mountains have seen so much rain already this year. Isn't Asheville in second with precipitation totals so far for the year?

Looks like worst case scenario for you guys in the mountains currently with the track being further south and the storm moving very slow.
