Looks like we are on tap for cold and snow in the mountains this weekend. Life is good.

Looks like we have multiple chances for some snow this weekend even down into the valleys.

Wx Twitter this morning has been fun to follow. Someone out of Canton inside the city limits posted this pic.
@Met1985, this is likely the evergreen plant providing just enough moisture to create a heavy diamond dust or light snow event for this person's yard (Evan Fisher's theory and I think it sticks). Diamond dust was falling in downtown Asheville as well.
Yep I have seen this a lot actually being from here. It is a neat phenomenon and the conditions have to be just right.

Well we have the freezing fog this morning! It's pretty neat. We are covered in this thick cloud and its 20 degrees. Also there is like this diamond dust thats falling here at the house. So we have a thick coating of ice fog on everything. Wish I could get a pic when the sun breaks but ill be asleep.

Yes the day 8.5 Euro would be a widespread winter storm taken verbatim and definitely would probably see the moisture more north than what is showing... let's hope the ensembles bite...
Even if they dont I think the next three weeks especially are above average for seeing something pop here in the SE.

That aint what I've been hearing
I'd take the synoptics of that event as depicted 1000% of the time.Yeah every time! Even in marginal temps but shoot the euro went from a mild day to an all out snowstorm for NC.

The blocking we are seeing is something we have not seen in a long while. The models are struggling even just a day or two out. I think the biggest takeaway recently is that we can expect things to pop up and be a legitimate threat in a relatively short time period.

There's too many maps to post but it's a beautiful storm. Verbatim, not a big event for north of say 40 but there's no reason that wouldnt fill in.
Yeah that is a nice little storm. One thing I've been noticing is that any warmup per se has been muted by the midels time and time again.

Microclimates... anyone looking at the Euro next week? Pretty cold air diving down and something brewing in Texas. Will probably get squashed
Yeah I posted about it on the other page. Looks decent. Really you cannot complain with the temp profile after the last two winters.

I really need to setup a measuring board since I’m using trees
Lol so do I. My deck is kind of open but I need a proper board. It's only appropriate for being a weather enthusiast lol.

Slacked back off, these bands come and go, was right on my 1/2” guess. Just measured that on the compacted snow on the porch and what was on my hemlock branches.
Lol I want a full analysis of when, were, and how, with moisture content and how warm was the hemlock branch sir....

Just got word school is letting out early. With these rates roads are starting to turn white.

The trough on the Euro is impressive but you can see the lack of cold air in Canada because with a trough that deep temps should be much colder. I really dont see a storm but I see a great indicator of some good flow snow.
-
Best rates of the day. Close to an inch on the deck. A pleasant surprise.

Really coming down with Big fat flakes here. Love days like this even if it doesn’t stick. Got a fire in the fireplace. I could work and look out my window and watch this all day long.

Dusting melted off once it had stopped, which with borderline temps and it being daytime doesn’t surprise me. Back to moderate snow with some fatter flakes.
Yep same. We had a heavy dusting on everything then it stopped but back to moderate snow. This just puts you in the winter mood.

Light flurries in Lenoir, NC! Seeing snow two out of four straight days is a win for non-mountainous areas.

Definitely a bust by the guidance. The NAM was sniffing out this scenario, but even it was waffling run to run.
Yeah last night the NAM had most of the precipitation to our west...

Most models barely had anything of this sort just last night with this system. This was a huge fail from them.
