  1. Just saw some frozen precip mixing in in that shower 30 mins ago in W philly. Guessing it was graupel? Broke apart easily. Pretty neat. The low level lapse rates are crazy.
  2. I think its some combination of rosy retrospection and improvements in model accuracy being met with immediate attempts to extend forecasts further. I haven't been watching them nearly as long or nearly as well as you have, but in my view the improvements since 2010 are obvious and enormous.
  3. This will forever be remembered for me as the winter of two storms, one that wasn't a blizzard but felt like one and the other that was a blizzard but didn't feel like one.
  4. going to sleep a couple hours before waking up to catch the daylight remains of the storm... maybe 3 or 4.5 hours....
  5. I'll go grab some measurements in a few minutes but I'm guessing around 11-12" "
  6. Snowing in cape may per friend. Starting to regret not driving down there for this one.
  7. Cold, dark winter mornings Fog The "pre snowstorm" weather of a sense of "descending stillness" Howling winds that make the building your in shake Walking around after a strong thunderstorm that brings down branches/debris Lightning illuminating a distant cumulonimbus on an otherwise mostly clear summer night
  8. in a technical sense you're right, because a newcomer that acted like Ji would probably get banned
  9. As usual the "drama" in this board is always just a new poster getting absolutely dogpiled by veterans for (not unreasonably) assuming that if Ji can do something, they can too. The moderaters here do a great job removing bad posters but until they start following the same rules they enforce on others they will find there's an unending stream to replace them. Or just literally amend the forum rules to say "these apply to new posters only". I'm serious, would reduce temper tantrums from new members if they knew this was the case going in.
  10. there is far more complaining about complaining than there is complaining
  11. largely theoretical question: why does it seem like fish storms tend to be pretty sparse with precipitation on the northwest quadrant compared to storms closer to the coast? does the continental air enhance precipitation somehow? or is this observation wrong/just a modelling error?
  12. the coastal plain is never "due" for a blizzard. especially under the new climate paradigm
  13. Hands down the worst posters in this forum are the otherwise silent people who feel the need to chime in whenever times are bad just to insult the regular posters for honestly expressing their disappointment and frustration. Literally no one cares how emotionally uninvested and above it all you are. Everyone knows who the better posters are. They should be the ones deciding how much of rhe lower quality content is allowed, not us random silent lurkers. We're not entitled to the excellent content here.
  14. Thinking this will be significantly higher impact than a few days ago. Plus icing on a Saturday night right before the superbowl? Could get fairly ugly.
  15. This looks like additional snow? It's much too low to be total snow.
  16. This can't possibly be the totals, right? I don't even think I got to 2 inches in Philly. Or is this just their not updated forecast?
  17. Hello! Just thought I'd introduce myself. I used to post on the mid-atlantic forum sometimes, but I have since moved to Philly. Hope to have a great winter here!
  18. I agree with you. Jan 2016 was the single best "main event" since at least 1922. Feb 2010 and Jan 1996 will always be ranked higher tho because the aftermath was so much better.
