  1. And yet you managed to post here. #CarringtonEventCancel
  2. Some interesting fun a couple of hours ago here. Crews and services investigate loud boom near Hamilton County | wthr.com I had just walked back from dinner downtown and was walking to the car to put it in the garage. I heard the rolling boom and thought thunder or there as a big train wreck. It was 100% overcast here so I did not see any flash. Came in the house and turned on the puter and when the radar came up I saw nothing even close to me that could have made any thunder. A real head-scratcher. Turned on the radio scanner and here the town east of here inspecting a large natural gas line in the country but not finding anything. Just before I hit the shower I heard the dispatcher mention either the NWS or EMS thought it might have been a meteor. Too bad it was overcast and I as not out taking sunset pics. Might not have got it even if I could see it. Post sunset I am usually focused to the west and if it was east of me I probably would not have been able to get swung around in time.
  3. You actually have a driveway and not an iceway! P.S. KIND made it up to 84 today.
  4. Looks like KORD will be warmer than KIND this morning. The Lake is your friend.
  5. Looks like the precipitation is exiting the area. I had hoped for between a half and an inch of rain but the tippy bucket says 0.42" in the backyard. Close.
  6. Even some white flakes mixed in with the drizzle and brief showers this far south.
  7. 4-10 was another seven hours of looking up. The early afternoon cirrus and a partial 22 degree halo around the Sun. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... Sometimes there is a contrail problem here in the Midwest. Taken with the 24-70mm at 38mm... The orange entering the area. Looking south. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... The red entering the area. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... The late red exiting the area to the west. Taken with the 24-70mm at 45mm... Cheers!
  8. 24 hour ago at 5:20 KIND as reporting 79. Now it is 46. Cruel but not unusual punishment. Spring in the Midwest, catch it!
  9. 4-9 was an approaching system sunset and a study on the point of patience with some sunsets. There was plenty of cirrus as the Sun got closer to all the gunk on the horizon as I got out to the overpass. Taken with the 24-70mm at 28mm... Trust me the light faded rapidly as the Sun sank lower. But for some reason I stayed for the last visible wavelength. Good thing I did. Later, after I got home, I saw on the visible satellite that a clear donut-hole opened up in way western Iowa. The result was a red flash that erupted from nowhere. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm (cropped in camera)... Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm (cropped in camera)... A good-to-the-last-drop sunset!
  10. 4-7 was a copy-cat sunset. A look west as the Sun touched the horizon. Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm... A look north as the red was creeping into the area. Pastel shades galore. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm (cropped in camera)... The color on the horizon. taken with the 100mm... Copy-cat Cheers!
  11. Losing 8" in two days is impressive enough.
  12. On 4-6 the system was still to my east but not far enough away to not give me some high clouds and with the severe clear west of me, it meant another colorful evening post sunset. Starting off looking north at the backside of the firehouse and as the orange started. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm (cropped in camera)... A look west not long after. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm (cropped in camera)... As the red was coming into frame. Taken with the 100mm... As the red was departing the area. Taken with the 100mm (cropped in camera)... Cheers!
  13. Why the farm fields? At 3:0something in the afternoon the Sun is 53 degrees up in the southwestern sky. You will be able to see it from downtown Indy if you so choose. Might have to walk a block or two at the most. It is not like it is happening close to sunrise or sunset and the Sun is on the horizon. Then I could see having to get to an open sky position.
  14. After the tornado in the area earlier in the day 4-5, the clearing line as the system departed hit the area right at sunset. The yellows as the Sun found the opening. Taken with the 24-70mm at 63mm... A broader overview as the actual clearing became visible and the oranges were starting. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... As the deep orange arrived. Taken with the 24-70mm at 41mm... Good night my darl'in, wherever you are...
  15. Maples are starting down here. Does not look like much up close but if you get some distance away, you can see the color starting...
  16. A week ago, on 4-3. As I was heading to a morning errand, I walked out the back door and saw this. Turned around and grabbed the camera and took some sunrise shots from the alley behind the house. So the house, trees and wires are part of the scenery. Looking east, through the neighbors porch. Taken with the 24-70mm at 67mm... Looking south as the color as zipping past. I like howw you can see the clouds at the bottom are lit up while the clouds above it (top of image) are blocked and in the shadow and still white. Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm...
  17. Way behind in the processing once again. These are from 4-2. The sunset and the yellows. Taken with the 100mm... The beginning of the reds. taken with the 100mm... The end of the reds. Taken with the 100mm...
  18. Best climo days also. Can't beat them with a stick though.
  19. This and two semi's flopped on their side on I-65 that completely blocked the northbound side for a number of hours filled the definition for severe here regardless what did or did not happen in Michigan.
  20. That line from western Iowa through eastern Kansas looked like it was made by a boundary or dryline moving northwest and another moving southeast merged, and that unzipped the whole line almost at once. Cool to see but kind of scary also.
  21. Thank you. Now I have a frame of reference for your posts.
  22. Meanwhile, way down south here it was at least 81. Just waiting on a six-hour update to see just how high.
