  1. Conditions were very changeable today. But there was a little bit of color to the sunset. Local sunset... A little red down low... And a little red way up high...
  2. Sure, but how many gale warnings have they had? Those Pacific storms do straight line winds rather well.
  3. Think of all the things you will miss complaining about, if you move.
  4. I must be living right. A hole opened up over me just for the sunset. I probably should have mowed the yard but I think I made the right choice to head out to the pond instead. Some nice color tonight. Pre sunset... Local sunset... The orange... And last but not least, the red...
  5. ^ Well, if you are going to break a record, may as well shatter it. Somebody there is sick and tired of water about right now I bet.
  6. Another time I was not planning on going out to the pond but a slight break up of the clouds on the western horizon close to sunset pulled me in for a quick shot...
  7. I can only attempt to talk about Indiana, but with the amount of moisture sitting on the surface and close to the surface in southern Indiana I would guess the little corn is not going to make much of a difference. Now watch me be 100% wrong.
  8. Another approaching system evening. But there was a lot of cirrus which can be nice to look at.
  9. Well this evening I had to sit out a brief downpour to get anything out at the pond. It was worth it in the end. Looking south east at the back side of the line of convection. Caught a decent cloud-to-cloud strike... Post sunset red color looking north east... Post sunset color looking north west...
  10. From the front porch again as I was not expecting any color at all this evening. But the atmosphere surprises from time to time.
  11. Only 1.13 in my tippy bucket. The totals really start ramping up just south of me, literally.
  12. I kind of figured the dry air was going to win this evening but I went out to the pond anyway. Some faint cloud shadows at the top of this image... Sun sneaking out again... Local sunset... Post sunset color, what little there was...
  13. Was a busy day behind the viewfinder. Started off while doing yardwork I looked up and saw a nice 22 degree halo around the sun while it was close to the meridian... Then it was onto the evening. This was looking south east when I got out to the pond... A look west when I first got there... Local sunset... And ending the evening with the post sunset color...
  14. 0.68 in the tippy bucket today. And it looks like that was less than half of what a lot of people in the area got today. So I guess I am one of the lucky ones, yeah right.
  15. It was raining this evening so I did not go out to the pond. I was watching the hockey game instead. Lucky timing that right at the first intermission I noticed some color in the window shades. So I went out on the front porch and shot this even though it was still raining. So the quality is suffering here a little bit...
  16. Did a flock of sandhill cranes make a bunch of nests in a ASOS sensor suite there?
  17. This evening I could tell even from leaving work that the sunset should be a good color one. Mainly cirrus overhead with the system to the south of me still. My perceptions were verified. Local sunset... The view to the south east where the more serious clouds were... The extent of the color. Well as much as I could. This is at 16mm and it still could not record everything... The purples and reds and the last of the color.... Say goodnight Gracie.
  18. Was not entirely sold on the sunset being something to look at, but I was out at the pond just-in-case. Local sunset... I figured the color would be shut off rather rapidly, so I pointed more up into the sky and got just about all of the clouds I could get before they disappeared... I figured if there was any color it would be way on the horizon so I shifted over to the 100mm lens... As I was taking to above image the red started to take off. So I had yo do another emergency lens change back to the 16-35mm. While I did miss the brightest part of the red flash, I still got a decent amount of red. Not bad for a final image of the night...
  19. You should have stayed at LAF. Actually the atmosphere unzipped between me and LAF. Only 1.4 here. I see a report of 3+ just south of Frankfort. The odd thing was the first inch here was a normal Midwest summer deluge. Wind and rain blowing every which direction. Then there was a 30 to 45 minutes pause. The last half an inch came straight down with no wind. I used to see that more on Taiwan with the marine influence. Kind of strange to see it in Indiana.
  20. That blew up almost right on top of that radar. Too close?
  21. Hooray! Finally mixed out most of the smoke. And even had a decent sunset for once. Good thing as the pattern looks to get wet again. Local sunset... Beginning of post sunset color... Extent of post sunset color... That's All Folks...
  22. Been trying to get an image that shows the effect of all the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Kind of hard to do. The satellite images do it better justice. But this evening A got two sort of decent images. In this one the sun is orange from all the smoke on the horizon while the clouds overhead are still white where you are looking through less smoke... In this one you can actually see the smoke in the blue part of the sky. Hopefully the reduction to fit on the server does no squash it...
  23. ^ You are welcome, but the farmers here are not too keen on accepting your gift.
  24. ^ Does that mean the Post Office is under water? Fourth and Washington is two blocks further away from the river from the Post Office.
