Looks like some patchy frost next week. Other than that looks pretty uneventful for the foreseeable future.

Today was the 37th AOA 90 degree day at MLI for the year. Another shot at 90+ on Tue, but then that should do it for 2023.
-
Pretty warm for the last day of September. Both MLI and DVN at 90 degrees so far.
-
Lots of area fields are being harvested now.
Tomorrow looks like temps will make the upper 80s.

GFS and hilariously bad modeling with early cold snaps, name a better combo.
Yeah the GFS is pretty much useless.

18z GFS showing snow showers next weekend in Iowa. Won't happen but shows that that kind of thing ain't too far away.

Tonight's 0.04" brings us to 4.27" for Sep. Looks like that's it for rain until sometime later next week.

Yeah, based on reports/photos that was a legit supercell with a brief tornado. Probably more impressive than anything that will happen in Iowa tomorrow, when it's actually in the tornado risk contours.
Any storm west of Cedar Rapids and south of Waterloo that isn't encompassed within a line is worth chasing. Seems like any birdfart storm in that area goes apeshit and produces or nearly produces lol.

It can snow in less than a month.

I picked up a very quick quarter inch midday as a thin line lifted north through the area. It was the heaviest downpour I've seen in months. Cyclone, from the same line, got over an inch, so he's really doing well this month.
Yeah it's definitely greening up now. Today's 1.30" brings us to 4.20" for month.

Stayed in the 60s today with an all-day heavy overcast, with steady mist/very light rain. Added up to 0.07".

The fact that we haven't had a mod in this sub for quite awhile is a testament to some pretty good posters here throughout I'd say. Yeah we ain't perfect, but overall for an unmodded sub I'd say this sub runs pretty nicely.

0.11" overnight. Up to 2.83" for the month.

Minneapolis ftw! Most days above 90 and most days below 0 in the subforum. Best Climo
MLI hit 90 36 times this year.

Nope. 0.16" in my gauge. The best rain split north and south of Cedar Rapids.
The entire spring and summer rain season has been an absolute dumpster fire. May-Sep 2023 is now drier than May-Sep 2012. We are now 12 inches of rain below avg during that period.
There is hope for some actual good rain this weekend, but I won't believe it until I see it in my gauge.
Hopefully the weekend precip pans out.
Picked up 0.13" here this morning.

Winds are gusting over 50mph out in Marshalltown IA on the north side of that rain swath. Mixing down some high momentum air just off the surface.

I'm pumped for tonight's 0.10" of rain with a few rumbles of thunder. Most models show most of the rain will be north and east of Cedar Rapids.
Nice cluster of storms heading towards u. Overperformer?

Radar is estimating between 6-8" of rain now north of Hammond, where it's still dumping.
Some nice towers popping up here with some isolated showers developing.
