  1. Thunderless rain this time of the year is pretty lame. Maybe April will provide us with a little thunder.
  2. Picked up 0.1" of snow this morning.
  3. 18z GFS has a nice 6-10" snowstorm all along the I-80 corridor from Iowa to northern Ohio about 300hrs out. One more model run and I say let's start a thread.
  4. Best daytime snow event of the season hands down. Snowed pretty much all day, with a nice snow globe period mid-afternoon. Also had a nice period of snow pellets around that same time mixed in with the larger dendrites. Was gone most of the day, and the snow has mostly melted off so I'll just go with an inch.
  5. For the record, the big storm I was prognosticating wasn't until the end of the month lol.
  6. Picked up 0.01" from showers along fropa earlier.
  7. Sure is inconvenient that all the model sites unanimously decided to dish out the model data an hour late the past several days. wtf!!!!!!
  8. Yeah wish we could just skip to May or June. The fail of 19/20 winter is done. March is a dud. Prob gonna have another cold/wussy April like per usual. Let's just skip to May and June and hope the 2% tor prob days pay off in Iowa like they have in the past 3 yrs.
  9. 1.51" of rain today. Still very light rain coming down. Biggest weather event since Jan lol.
  10. Closing in on a half inch of rain. Should make an inch the way it's looking. Steady light rain, with regular intervals of moderate rain. Grass is still brown. Need to get some thunder up here if we're going to get any greening up of that of any consequence.
  11. Looking forward to a nice soaking rain tomorrow. Anywhere from 3/4-1" of rain looks likely. Would love some thunder, but looks like that's not in the cards this go around.
  12. MLI made it to 71 today. Hit 68 here.
  13. First 70 of the year tomorrow if the HRRRRRR is correct.
  14. 40-50mph winds out there. Sleet is mixing in with the cold rain showers. The pinging against the west windows is alarmingly loud lol.
  15. Had a burst of sprinkles around 4am here.
  16. Pretty cool that there's severe ongoing in the southern end of our state tonight. A sign that seasons are changing. You wouldn't know it tonight though, as temps are in the upper 20s. Hopefully something interesting shows up to track in the last half of this month. Other than the snow/ice system back in mid Jan all the events have been very wussy going back several months. Need something with some cahones to break the trend.
  17. Yeah it seems to do best in a well-mixed low-level environment, which is usually full of sun. A few weeks ago it was showing a marginal severe setup for southern IA. It has temps reaching into the mid 50s, but in reality they ended up about 10 degrees cooler and instead of 500-700 J/kg of cape there was 0. Not sure if it was too aggressive in breaking up the clouds that day or what, but it was way too optimistic with temps.
  18. This is why I always follow the farmer's almanac. 60% of the time it works every time.
  19. HRRR ended up being pretty close to reality for high temps today. It had MLI hitting 66, and they hit 65. Hit 63 here. Warmest since Christmas lol.
  20. Haha, maybe. Must be old age. There's definitely an extra spring in everyone's step today. Temps are skyrocketing like a mofo lol. It's already in the mid 50s, with a ripping south breeze. First robins have showed up today, which is kind of a funny coincidence. Went from none, to about 5-6 out in the back yard hopping around, picking through the leftover dried leaves from last year looking for something to snack on. Looks like mid to upper 60s this afternoon.
  21. Well, we've made it to met spring. So long underwhelming half-assed winter of 19/20! Time for outdoor grilling, and daily checks of the SPC site to see if any interesting convective events are on the way. Cheers!
