  1. There is some truth to this. Rocket fuel down there. The western Caribbean is screaming let's break the low pressure record
  2. The storm that created my weather addiction. I was only 3 but I do remember it. South wantagh had tremendous tree damage. A large 70' Norway Maple in front of my house lost its entire top. It took down 3 telephone poles with it. As far as impact at my particular house it was the worst storm ever. We would have Flooded had it occurred at high tide as my elevation is 7'. We had water in the street during sandy but it never made it over the curb
  3. Surprised no one is talking about how dry it's been. Literly drying out in wantagh...
  4. Great shot!!! Lee really is tiny. Though despite his stronger winds his IKE is mere percentage points of Maria's. Maria is another massive wave machine. Tremendous fetch of tropical storm fource winds is really what's needed to maximize swell production. That and movement twords land (currently twords the NE coast) produces captured fetch further enhancing wave hights.
  5. I know what it measures OHC is definitly higher then shown in the Gulf Stream. It kind of shows it but I think it's more expansive then that. Tomorrow is day 7 here on Long Island of swell above 10 seconds and 4 foot. That's pretty rare around here, unfortunately this isn't California in that regard. if we make it past 10 days we are in the company of the greats like Felix 95
  6. I think that's off for the Gulf Stream but that's a pretty narrow area. Thats about the only area that's advantageous to a tropical system above 35 north
  7. It would have to thread the perfect needle for it to miss everyone. Don't forget the Bahamas's and Bermuda. Right now I would like both those places for a direct impact
  8. After reading what you guys have written I do not want to miss this. I'm thinking of driving down to North Carolina Sunday and then heading south. Everything in South Carolina is booked!!! Plus it would be nice to be somehat mobile as others have said.
  9. Exactly lee and Jeff are both cornell mets and great on camera, Amy has an environmental science degree and is ackward as fuk.
  10. I was just thinking the same thing!! The king of cold throws in the towel and then bam we have possibly our best march ever. (I'm not one to talk I threw in the towel for the coast)
  11. Compete nightmare out there the last decade!! JM would know best but I think they had over 100" in 93/94
  12. Must be out there in state college for him. I wonder what their ytd snowfall is
  13. Poor Amy Freeze, she's a mess reporting from surf road in Long Beach. (Surf road doesn't excist). Babbled her way through the live report. It was so painful to watch I had to change the channel
  14. Wow that's terrible: not afraid to admit I like the the weather channel. He wasn't even that old. Rip
  15. There are some great people and quality posters in the nyc sub forum. Mods have been doing a good job of rooting out the trolls and drama queens so fighting has been much less then in the past So what do you gain, allot. You can still have a permanent philly thread like we do for out NW burbs and Long Island
  16. Pd2 while in college Towson md. No class for a week. Talk about an epic party. We actually got sick of partying several days in. That's still the most snow I have seen from one storm despite being in Boston for jan 05 and all the big NY storms other then that one
  17. March 2011 had tremendous snow totals im the Catskills above 2500' 2" plus. I'm sir eithe highest elevations near 4k saw close to 48"
  18. That storm was the ultimate on Long Island until sandy. The winds were insane. Until sandys complete blow downs I knew exactly where the trees that the 92 nor'easter blew down. What it did have that even sandy dId not was major coastal flooding over many many high tide cycles
  19. I could see or the north island of Japan but the tornado part is harder. In reality it probably is the only place in modern history this has happened. Throw in the minor earth quake and Irene and we have had a pretty insane period the last couple years.
