Just waiting on that 250 mile southward shift. Trend is your friend.

Only real ones would come to Champaign and ride out this 1/2” of powder whipped at 50mph. Wild times. Y’all will be missing out.

Thankful for that GHD III hit in February 2022 or I would likely be losing my mind. That was the first double digit hit since March 2013 and before that was February 2007.

So much potential wasted with this pattern. I received .3” of slush Monday night that melted in 2 hours and Friday looks no different. The cherry on top? Arctic cold and dry for the foreseeable future. Hopefully someone gets in some hotness here.

Sorry, what do you mean “too”
Chicago has had the hot hand for awhile. They’ve reeled in quite a few big dogs over the years.

Alek was worried about miss south, they are reeling this one in too.

I'm up to 10.5". Everything is plastered with snow, including the sides of the house. Models show we have another 2.5 hours to go, but it's beginning to taper off. It's pretty awesome to have a solid defo zone parked over us all day. That is rare.
Enjoy your storm Hawkeye! Glad to see you finally get a good one. Well overdue.

starting to get the feeling I may be a shade to far south this one.

Congrats to those cashing in. My call was $ here, and those in IA, NW Illinois hit the jackpot. Temps maxed at 43 here earlier.

Emotions will be running high because of the amped up solutions, as stebo alluded too, lots of moving parts, that are just now coming into focus. Obviously everyone wants the historic blizzard, BUT a spread the wealth that drops 6-9” with 30-35mph winds is still awesome to me.

Made a pretty good call, cold rainer with 1” of slop. Cyclone should do well.

Give me the 960 rainer over a miss south

My call looking good too. Rainer with back end 1” slop. Will gladly pass on this for the looming Goliath late next week.

I was going to ask if 1/5/14 “Polar Vortex Blizzard” would be a potential analog for next weeks setup. One of my favorite storms of the last decade. What a beast.

ILX majorly downplaying this in their latest afd. Calling for mix or potentially rain through majority of the event well into Tues.
ILX always does. Just like WCIA (local weather here in CI) I wish this snowfall wasn’t getting nuked by the warm temps prior to the next system, would certainly help with thermals.

Cold rainer with back end 1” paste job. Final call

Euro definitely aggressive with that warm nose and dry slot into IL. Dangerously close here. Something to watch as these strong lows always pull up a lot of warm air and a big dry slot and models tend to underestimate them. Hoping track doesn't go anymore nw from where it is, ha. But nw trend wouldn't shock me one bit.
yeah thermals are concerning. Cold rain or a back end paste job is not out of the question here. -
Everyone low key waiting for that juiced NAM run. Y’all can’t deny it. Honestly, just glad we are transitioning to a more active pattern.
