Hi! Would like to see an obs only page for this storm to make it easier to find the data, not only for myself but potentially the media with avid winter weather interest quite high. I'll add only 1 EXPERIMENTAL graphic from about 5AM this morning (Saturday 30th before the storm), but may eventually add pix to support observations as this complex event evolves in its banded - varying intensity form. The graphic below i think is realistic about axis of trouble and I can explain it a bit on the Dec 1-3 discussion page if requested, for those who've not seen this experimental product. Other NWS staff may improve on my interpretation. The legend should assist.

Good morning from Wantage NJ 8 s High Point: Mixed precip began Sussex County NJ 655A-730A, and all snow in Wantage at 730AM with roads wet but grass/roofs starting to whiten at 744AM. May have one more report around 835AM before I go offline for most of the day.

Good morning American Weather participants, It might be nice to consolidate wintry precip reports for whatever this minor event delivers today, under one topic. While flurries have occurred in parts of the metro area (nw NJ for sure) on the 8th, today's short period of flurries or snow should be a little more widespread though confidence on where anyone sees a slight accumulation (especially grass-cars-rooftops) is less than ideal.

Did anyone notice the NAM performance on yesterdays ex-Nestor? I thought superior to any other model from long range til about 12 hours before the rain started (much further north on heavy precip, low pressure track). This includes the EC, GFS, CMC, UK, HREF and HRRR. Walt 2135z/21

My last for today: 3.53 238-9P; 3.59 for the calendar day. 5.88 since the 17th. SR 23 near Kinnelon reported washed out. a report of 4.03 just north of Sussex NJ looks legit per digital STP, which seems to be reading less than reality.

Wantage NJ 4 sw at 557PM: 3.07" since 238P. 3.13 for the day. 5.42 since the 17th. Glad its easing at 557PM. Digital storm total and PHI internet STP's might be a touch low? Not much, but definitely a minimum from my vantage point here. Wont write again til (if) we pass 3.5 for the day. 602P/22.

Just sent to PHI (NWS area of respo for Sussex County NJ): Wantage NJ 4 sw... 2.9 since 238PM. 2.96 for the day: 5.19" since the 17th. Local neighbors pumping water from unusual summer flood locations around homes. Some weather underground reports ne PA into se NYS past 3". submitted 534P/22.

Attaching wunder map... several reports 2.5-3" today, most of it this afternoon and here at our house now past 2.85 since 238PM. This has to be causing some brook and small stream flooding in these hilly areas. Bad possibilities for campers near small streams. I know of folks using pumps to lower water here in our neighborhood to minimize flood risk. 527PM

Wantage NJ 4 sw (8 s High Point)...since 238PM-501PM 2.5". Since the 17th 4.85" Some residents pumping water in the nw NJ hills. another couple of hours of off and on TR+. I'd be careful crossing any flooded roadways where brooks or streams are involved. NWS posted a FFW mid afternoon. We don't often flood up here in the nw NJ hills but there's a good chance of a flash flood problem. STP's look a little low to me as of 5P. Walt 506P/22

They were skating on Culvers Lake here in nw NJ yesterday---large lake on 206 near the Appalachian Trail. Should add at least 6" ice thickness by Friday 8AM. Piles of snow/ice left in Wantage but overall we have to call it a Trace (for now). I haven't changed any of my thinking from yesterdays post for the entire period discussed. Temps within 2F of what i wrote. This is big...for Chicago I think they need to be talking coldest since 1985... not 1994. Just my take...EC continues 2m low near near -26F. Lets see what the models deliver the next several days... not some are trending colder tracks than yesterdays modeling for the Feb events.
