  1. About to be under some of of the heaviest returns yet out here. Flakes are getting larger again, temp still holding at 27.
  2. And just now WCU pulled the trigger for cancelling evening classes. I'm just sitting here refreshing the traffic map and it just keeps getting redder and redder. Stay safe out there, everyone.
  3. Starting to get a bit gusty here. Roads (and my parking lot) are covered. Since I'm on a hill, I'm effectively snowed in. Still coming down pretty heavy with fine flakes. Temp holding at 27.
  4. Yep, it's either that or risk my life on the autobahn--er I mean Rt 30. No thanks. I think I'm cancelling my appearance at school this afternoon.
  5. Yeah and they STILL haven't cancelled my afternoon class at WCU. Checking out Google maps with traffic, every road is solid orange/red between me and West Chester (I live about a half hour away). They are usually quite good about this seeing as how it's a big commuter school...
  6. Also, slightly off-topic, and this is just for Chester County, but I recently found a site that lists active fire, police and EMS dispatches. Pretty useful for checking road conditions or if you hear a siren and want to know what's going on. It's really starting to get busy out there--normally there are only a handful of dispatch calls out. Check it out: https://www.chesco.org/3963/WebCad-Active-Incidents
  7. Just now hearing the first plow go by! Snow is sticking to the roads a bit.
  8. About to be in the orange NE of Oxford a bit... Small flakes here but looks like it's getting a little bit darker outside if I'm honest.
  9. Temp was holding at 28, just now dipped to 27. Interesting. It was forecast to be up to 30 by now...
  10. Been chucking here since about 10:15 or so. Ground is covered but the road outside my window is just wet. I hope it either stays that way or WCU cancels afternoon classes...
  11. NAM 12k and 3k seem overly optimistic. I will say that it's a rare treat to be tracking something like this in November though.
  12. Any idea on when Mt. Holly is going to resume updating their snow/ice potentials page? State College's site appears to be working...
  13. I think this is the couplet in question, right in the middle:
  14. It's fascinating to me how far that pendulum shifted. What I'm not too fond of is that when we look back at October 2018 and "only" see a slightly above normal temp for the month, the fact that it was still in the 70's and 80's for half the month will be obscured. It's just too bad that anomalous weather is becoming less so in this climate.
  15. Terrific gust front just moved through as the wife and I were driving home just now. We saw a sudden orange glow over the highway and then all the streetlights went out. Must have blown a transformer somewhere close. Thankfully the lights were only out momentarily, because my genny isn't working atm. (need to clean out the carb, left untreated gas in it for a couple of months like a doofus). Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow.
  16. Wunderground says we're at 37 but I just checked and there is frost on my car.
  17. I'm still not over their map change. I'm still searching for a suitable replacement, but this is the best I've found thus far: http://weather.wdtinc.com/imap/imaplite/?MAPID=10937&CLIENTID=20485 It's not perfect either, but at least it doesn't crash after several minutes. That plus these are my storm-mode links: http://www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#m=sen;t=4;s=0;o=0;b=0.00;ts=0; https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/exper/?parms=nrnmidat-02-24-0 https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?type=LWX-N0Q-1-48
  18. Same here, not much rain but the clouds are absolutely booking it to the west over my house right now.
  19. Thanks Agnes! After losing power for an extended time twice this year, I bit the bullet and bought a generator and a portable A/C yesterday as soon as I saw the forecasts ticking up past 2" of rain for today... My wife and I are caregivers for my mother-in-law, and it's reassuring to finally have a fallback solution other than driving an hour to my parents' house every time the power goes out. Gotta run out soon and get longer extension cords though.
  20. Hi Agnes, do you mind if I ask what map you're using here? I've been struggling to find a decent one ever since they changed the old WU maps to their newer, crudier version. Thanks!
  21. We got dumped on here in Thorndale for a solid 30 minutes. Power went out from 7pm to 2am, but luckily it cooled off enough outside to allow us to open the windows. All the fire alarms went off and all the lights turned on at 2am though, that was a rude awakening. I'm guessing the humidity is what set them off. Not sure how much rain we got, but I've never seen such a stationary storm before! Was just watching it bloom over us on the radar for what seemed like ages.
  22. That was pretty intense. I was actually camping out in southern Delaware when it rolled through. Rode it out with a buddy in my car, resumed camping in the rain afterwards, had a good time. Didn't really understand the scale of destruction until watching the news the next day. So many impactful events over the last ten years though. Sandy, for sure, but further inland we actually suffered worse under Irene.
