  1. I just checked the HRRR and it slowed everything down....comes in later and stays longer into tomorrow. At 12Z (both the HRRR run and time of day tomorrow) you were starting to get into some yellows while now on the 1Z run you are still pink at 12Z. Previously you were to be going green around 15Z now still pink and dark red. If this were a snowstorm we would have been on that within moments of release, but our smoke tracking must not be up to the same level :-). Little to no ground smoke here right now.
  2. The calls for a bad early summer were about as bad of a call as ever stated.
  3. We are about down to 5 miles, but it is also getting dark with the higher-level smoke covering the sun. Definitely no headlights needed though. I fully expect to go downhill tonight though will be hard to see.
  4. Me as well. Hardly any smoke here. I can see Whitetail which is over 10 miles away.
  5. It is actually quite sunny and just a tad smoky here. Did the HRRR drop the ball? (Kidding about the HRRR but it is clearer now than any other time today)
  6. USGS is so eclectic. They monitor droughts and have live erupting Volcano web cams. #The year without Summer 2024. https://www.youtube.com/usgs/live When I started glancing at this from time to time, the area in the box had little to no red....now it is advancing.
  7. The next time MD has a wildfire, it plans to send it to OC, NJ. Imagine if this was Bike Week.
  8. Make your next bet about the Summer of 1816 and go for something bigger. If he says there is no way smoke can travel that far when the planet is flat, please let us know.
  9. Yea, seriously. Long Range HRRR has the next batch coming at the LSV from the West Thursday night (glancing at least.)
  10. Forum divider to start. First ob's coming in from Lanco instead of Mag or Bub.
  11. Globals still signaling Friday could be active....then they delay the previous weekend front way back to late Monday or even Early Tue now.
  12. Cold Smoke in Binghamton . In all seriousness it looks apocolyptic.
  13. That is sickening to look at....that much smoke.
  14. A testament to the lower amounts of pollution taking place...at least the kind that worked toward much of that "smog".
  15. On a Spring thread when we are in Met summer. LOL. You watch, on Sept one people will be clamoring to start a fall thread.
  16. Like the LSV, that is just one map interpretation. I have an issue calling any area that is 2000' feet above sea level a Valley so I think this map is probably Watershed as much as Valley.
  17. On this MAP the LSV goes farther north than other depictions I have seen. Never thought about when I saw 'Windows open LSV", that includes the State College suburbs.
  18. LOL, if you ask one person you will get one answer and another person gives you a different answer. On some maps the MSV goes from the Northern LSV line all the way to NY and the USV is in NY. Other maps are more PA centric and have the MSV and USV both in PA.
  19. Yea, there are a few counties where some maps show a sliver of them being considered the LSV. Chester is one, Schuylkill is one, etc. I was just lazy and kept with the counties that have a larger chunk on those maps. I probably could have kept Berks off the list as well.
  20. That is how I knew Ken Brown, he bought it from me at Rennigers. You can take a wood ladder worth $5 in Cumberland County, call it an antique and sell it for $100 at Rennigers.
  21. I just read that there is technically a 1183 foot spot in Lanco on good ole Ken Brown's property...where someone stacked a bunch of rocks at some point in the past. The 1180 figure is public highest spot.
  22. That is indeed where I saw it. I am certainly not into relief maps like you but find it interesting to see the stats.
  23. If you take this map as the LSV, I know there are a lot of variations, the highest point in each county in order is: Franklin-Tuscarora Mountain 2459 Cumberland-Blue Mountain 2270 Perry-Blue Mountain 2270 Adams-East Big Flat Ridge 2070 Dauphin-Big Lick Mountain 1771 Berks-Blue Mountain 1680 Lebanon-Stony Mountain 1651 York-Stone Head North 1412 Lancaster-Texter Rd 1180
