    True. Sometimes the difference can be as much a going from a dusting to a full half inch. A dusting will only shut down the schools but a half inch shuts down everything.

    Winter 1976-1977 was the best of my life. I was teaching in Floyd County, VA. We went to school 1 day in January.

    My peak gust as measured by my weather station was 54.8. It was rocking and rolling for a while. Interestingly the highest gusts were after the squall line went through.

    My wife and I took a day trip today thanks to your photos. It was a beautiful day and the colors were the best in several years. It was nice to get out of the house for a while.

    I misread your post. I missed the “est” on low. Our average low for September is 61which is what I was referring to. I’m not sure how an extreme is necessarily basic climatology but if you think so more power to you. I tend to base my climate expectations on averages and then enjoy or hate when an extreme comes my way.

    I am at 51.45”. This is the wettest year here at this point since I started keeping track 10 years ago.

    If I remember correctly that coloring means a cold start and finish but the core of the winter will be warm.
