  1. Yeah, it’s not nearly as bad as it could be, but we could really use a good soak. The grass is slowly dying out. It certainly is compared to 9”. We’re in the midst of a wet pattern and swaths of LI find a way to see below normal precip. It’s mid summer and temps have been above normal, aside from like two bursts of heavy rain, July was bone dry. Grass is largely brown and trees are shedding leaves. It’s not a full on drought, but it’s a stark contrast between here and much of NJ/NYC.
  2. My average max heat index for July was 96°F. Average dew point was 70°F, max dew point was 82°F (twice).
  3. That’s more than my monthly total for July. July - 3.23” June - 3.90” Dryish LI summer pattern very evident.
  4. 87.5°F / 69.8°F (78.2°F) for the month of July. Warmer than last July (76.3°F) and August (77.6°F) and slightly more humid overall than both. 3.23” of precipitation. Drier than both last July (3.59") and last August (4.68”).
  5. Official heat wave....90, 91, 92. Barely noticeable after the 115+ degree heat indices the weekend before last, 90 feels very average.
  6. I literally watched those storms blow up from the Northern State and the LIE. Started as a tall but small columnar cumulous cloud not visible on radar and blew up right before my eyes, overtaking 1/3rd of the sky.
  7. 91 still in Harlem. 78 at home, high was 91. Yesterday hit 90.
  8. Waves began reaching the middle of the beach at Smith Point Beach shortly after I arrived. Hordes of people picking up their belongings and running as if it were a tsunami. Stopped about 10 feet short of reaching me, didn’t have to move.
  9. If someone said winter had already peaked while it was still January they’d be bombarded with “it can snow in March/April” responses.
  10. 1.10” today, 1.85” event total, 3.21” for the month.
  11. This is some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen. Up there with the August 2014 deluge. Rainfall rates approaching 4 inches per hour.
  12. Flash Flood Warning just came through for Suffolk County. 15 seconds later it’s now raining. I just watered my plants to weigh them down in the event of strong winds.
  13. Okay sky is definitely rotating, very eerie blue color, it’s dark, but bright, looks like a partial eclipse. Looks scary as hell. No rain yet, just sprinkles.
  14. I was driving so I was also unable to capture it, it’s visible on radar though. Super dark now, walkway lights just came on. Edit: Clouds just suddenly changed directions, now moving SE, clouds appear to be rotating.
  15. I’m under some ominous looking convergence going on in the skies, to my east the clouds are moving NW, and to my north, west, and south clouds are moving NE.
  16. Suffolk County watching the rest of the area get pummeled with storms, time and time again.
  17. DP back into the upper 70’s after a brief respite, hard to believe it managed to dip into the mid 60’s earlier in the afternoon. 85/78/97.
  18. 89 so far. Another one to add to my plethora of 89’s so far this summer.
  19. 87 here, maybe this will be an official heat wave after all.
  20. Quite warm out this morning, 84/73/91 before 8 AM. No comparison at all to the last few days, but still very warm.
  21. I’m in the middle of the island and the storms over the ocean are lighting up the whole sky here, even inside is being illuminated by the lightning.
