  1. 84/75 (HI 92) here, my type of weather. I’m thinking forecasts for Long Island (away from the south shore) might be a bit conservative, just a hunch, but we’ll see. 0.37” yesterday, 0.04” from the morning drizzle and the rest from last night’s downpour. High was 80, low was 66. Heard the first Cicada yesterday, and they’re more abundant today, right on schedule (mid summer).
  2. 77/75 here, it actually feels slightly hot outside. Air is stagnant and filled with bugs. Hoping for a decent downpour.
  3. 78/75 here, air feels very thick. Sky trying to clear out here but still sort of socked in.
  4. It isn’t as big of an issue at the local level since there’s plenty of other stations nearby to choose from, but on a larger regional/national/global level Central Park represents NYC. None of NYC’s stations do a perfect job of capturing the city’s general climate/weather, they ultimately reflect only their particular microclimate. LGA, in my opinion, easily comes the closest, but since it sits directly on the water its conditions can shift dramatically with changing wind directions, unlike the majority of the city, same for JFK and JBL, meanwhile KNYC, which arguably has the best location of the four, has obs that are tainted and unreliable. When I lived in Jamaica my microclimate was a mix of LGA and JFK, leaning more towards LGA in the summer and JFK in the winter. In Far Rockaway my microclimate matched JFK in all seasons, the main difference was on a few nights in the winter where it’d be 10+ degrees warmer. Currently WNW of ISP where my highs in the summer are about 2°F warmer on average.
  5. If there won’t be any efforts to remedy the disaster that is KNYC, I’m all for LGA taking over as the “official” NYC station as it best represents the climate of NYC. Either way, I hate seeing KNYC’s legacy being ruined by poorly maintained siting conditions, you’d think since it’s so “historically significant” these problems wouldn’t exist.
  6. Rained for literally 5 seconds here (yes literally), started and stopped almost instantly. One of those situations where you can smell the rain and see it falling 1-2 blocks away but you get nothing. Edit: Storm blew up to my south, just as it cleared me...
  7. Dark and windy here, cell sliding about half a mile to my east, you can’t make this up. 80/68....high was 88, low was 69.
  8. 86/73 today, 0.10” with the pop up shower that moved through. ISP is giving me KNYC vibes this summer.
  9. Cell ~40 miles to my ENE over eastern Suffolk... 81/74 and raining here now....
  10. Made it to 88 here, clouds in the afternoon blocked us from reaching 90.
  11. Speaking of bugs, I was stunned to see so many bees flocking to my potted Southern Magnolia, which bloomed for the first time last week. Apparently they LOVE this species (according to the internet). I rarely see bees here so it was a nice sight, furry bees and non-furry bees alike, many of them looked very young too. Tropical Storm Fay blew those flowers off the tree but there’s more on the way, hopefully the bees come back. Magnolias are living fossils, they’re very ancient and predate most trees and also bees and other common insects. Southern Magnolia flowers smell divine btw, one of my favorite trees, glad they can grow here.
  12. 75/74 and overcast here, skies were clearer overnight.
  13. View from 495 in Suffolk: Car says it’s 79 degrees, tops of trees starting to bend.
  14. Yeah it feels quite warm out with the sun, even with the increasing winds, temps approaching 80 with dews in the mid 70’s.
  15. Fay’s winds have finally arrived, it was just dead calm like 30 minutes ago. Bright skies with racing clouds, off and on drizzle, temp is 77.
  16. 84/76 here, heat index is 93 but it feels even hotter than that to me.
  17. 79/75 here, low was 74.... Low, thick clouds racing to the northeast.
  18. 76/71 here, sun feeling like it wants to come out at times, but ultimately doesn’t. Edit: Sun is out! Probably not for long though.
