  1. Yup. 78 today, 79 yesterday, 78 the day before.
  2. 78 here. You can feel the soupiness in the air (not a complaint, I love it).
  3. 77 here. See what a little bit of sun can do?
  4. If you told me it was January 7th right now I’d believe you. 1.73” event total so far.
  5. Topped out at 75 here, temp dipped down to 71 now.
  6. 78 on my Kestrel in Plainview (LI).
  7. Temps are over performing for LI today. Low 60’s are actually near 70’s. High of 69 so far. 71 yesterday.
  8. Weren’t they just in an extreme drought and wildfire season?
  9. *any time of year, unfortunately.
  10. It’s only 43 but it feels 55 in the late March sun.
  11. Such damage is more common in the south, especially inland, where spring warmth comes on much stronger than here but final freeze dates aren’t too disimilar from ours. Things start growing weeks before they’re fully out of the woods in terms of cold blasts. Our muted early spring warmth (coastal location/seasonal lag) coupled with very early last freeze dates for our latitude (coastal location/heavy urbanization) usually work to prevent such damage from occurring here in most cases, since things generally don’t grow an appreciable amount before our last freeze occurs there isn’t much (if any) new growth to damage. This may change as our climate warms, this March has been a good example of that, sustained warmth followed by a sharp cold outbreak.
  12. 42 degrees with heavy graupel.
  13. HAILING. For the first time in my life I’ve seen hail. It only took a million years.
  14. 20’s shan’t be good for the trees that are in bloom here, Magnolias especially don’t appreciate it.
  15. 2009 was a nightmare, but 2010-2013 & 2015-2021 have more than made up for it.
  16. This is the first not-crappy March in ages. Topped out at 70, currently 66. My kestrel measured 74 in Melville.
  17. Thankfully I sit on LI’s equator. Temp up to 60 here now. I hope that mess stays relegated to the immediate south shore.
  18. Something something 11 year cycle.
  19. Flipped from rain/snow to pure sleet to a heavy snow/sleet mix in the span of 5 minutes here in Plainview.
  20. Drizzle Moderate Snow Rain Light-Moderate Snow Rain/Snow Heavy Snow Rain/Snow Light Snow <——- Currently The snow accumulates and gets washed away before accumulating again.
  21. Thinnest part of the line went overhead (of course). 0.02” with a few moderate gusts.
  22. Topped out at 62 here, at 9 AM. Temps were off to the races, and then crashed, several times today.
  23. 60 with sunshine in Central Islip. 50 and misty here in Yaphank. Only 10 exits apart on the LIE.
  24. The differences are rather extreme. I’m in Hauppauge and it’s white as snow, yet in Central Islip it’s just wet, this is a latitudinal difference of maybe 3,000 feet.
  25. Very icy winter wonderland as you head north near the LIE. Very different story immediately south of there with no ice whatsoever.
