80’s is not Coc k lol

The Chamber won't be sneezing at 80*.

Meanwhile, I'm excited to be leaving for home tonight--have been out west for the last two weeks.  I'm also excited that BDL now has non-stop to SFO (thanks #unitedairlines).  Rumor has it that the Pit's turned a new color while I was gone.

  2. I had the biggest frog I've ever seen at the pool this morning.

Enjoy the installations next week!  Leaving tomorrow for two weeks in PDX, Spokane, Vancouver, Seattle, SFO.  Back on the 18th.  Aside from the leg from SEA to SFO I'll be driving.  Really looking forward to the time in the upper northwest.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for Bigfoot.

I had this deer stop by this evening outside my kitchen window as I was washing the dishes from dinner. It looked right at me as I opened the back door to take this photo.

The deer definitely migrate to the valleys during the winter to escape the deep snow pack that we have up here. Although not the primary carrier of black legged ticks, this fella probably brought some up here from the lower elevations. Now I need to be extra careful and apply bug spray to my feet and legs when walking near or in the woods.

I'm hoping to see a moose one of these days. Unfortunately they are on the decline due to parasites like brain worm and the winter tick.

And yet the population in Mass continues to grow.

It certainly depends upon ones location.  If you live in a rural area that's not populated by manicured lawns, its much easier to let the lawn be what it wants to be.  Once get get into the more established cities/towns it's much harder and you sort of go with the flow since you don't want to be the odd man out.  I certainly don't like douse my lawn in chemicals but I do like it to be relatively green/healthy.  Some weeds are acceptable but a lawn dominated by weeds is not.

    Shhhhhhhhhh.

Well after having the spindles on my mower rebuilt, (it used to sound like I was mowing marbles) I decided to sand and paint the machine (OCD). Mows great and the yard is looking pretty good. The clover definitely got knocked down this year between the pre and post emergent fert. I think my routine will be heavy weed and feed in the spring and core aerating and overseeding in the fall. In 3 years my lawn went from sparse old neglected grass that barely grew to this.

Why does Scott get his panties in a bunch over Lesco from Home Depot?

Sharpened the lawn mower blade and changed the oil, ready for the season.

I still need to get mine serviced.  I'll probably do some more seeding today.

Edit:  it's amazing how little 100 pounds of seed covers.

Just this afternoon that the grass is starting to show signs of awakening.  When I lived down in Metro Boston and certainly growing up in Baltimore, springs and falls lasted longer.  It seems as you move towards the poles the in-between seasons are shorter.  Up here spring is a 4 or perhaps 6 weeks deal, the same for fall.  Is it my imagination?  Probably not as climatologically our weekly temperatures rise or fall very quickly with the sun angle and length of daylight.

LOL.  We just got home from doing some exploring in ORH land and I said "wow, things started to get green" as we pulled into the driveway.  Meanwhile, the last patch of snow is still lingering at a house at the bottom of my road.

    Where to?

It's very much up in the air.  My daughter will be attending Tabor next year, and the sense is we'd like to be closer, especially with me spending a lot of time away.

So, my wife is looking for something new which will determine it.  It's possible we'd be over to ORH land.  We had lived in the Tatnuc area when we were first married about 15 years ago.  I could see us going back to something on the west side if things work out job-wise.

Heavy heavy yard work today. Valleys FTW right now with regard to greenup/perennials popping up/etc compared to the mountain towns still flicking snow fleas off their snowpack. Nice late season skiing though.

Mitch still buried at 2k while at 1k in the valley south hills getting pretty green.

    Nice digs.

It's a whole lot greener up there than down here.  That said, I think that once things do click in we'll see one of the fastest (albeit latest) green-ups ever.  To that end, I think I'm going to be seeding a larger area of the front lawn today.  I'll be doing so with a little sadness as methinks this will be our last spring at the Pit.

Actually up to 30.5" and still snowing...

Congrats, Ray--that's awesome.  Makes for a great winter finale.

With the exception of an hour or so yesterday afternoon, I haven't been able to see across the river since the snow started.  No idea of accumulations.  We've probably received close to 10" since the end of the day yesterday.  Snowing nicely now, progged daytime accumulations today of 1-3".

That's good Kennebec River living right there..........lol

We even has some pretty healthy waves coming in.  I'm not sure what the winds are, the statement that was issued a couple hours ago said up to 50mph gusts.

Nice.  Congrats to you.  Looks like you positioned yourself just right--just to your west not so much.

There is somebody that is a spotter in North Bath away from the water.

Great--I'm glad s/he is a spotter.  It's going to be tough to get anything accurate.  I've been in 1/4 visibility for what seems like hours and I have no snow on my car, a road that's mostly snow-free and a deck that doesn't have a flake.

Getting smoked down here.  Little to show for it with the howling winds   I have no snow on the deck, very little knew snow in the yard and the street it blown clear.  I hope they're getting good measurements away from the water.
