Yeah, 42/35 doesn’t seem like ripe conditions to see any accumulating snowfall. #itdoesntsnowanymore

20.8 was my low here in NW Hickory.

That's our climate though. Usually people outside the mountains just need 1 big snow to make their annual snowfall.
True, but we haven’t gotten that one snowfall in any of the past five years. It’s been a complete famine here east of the mountains, and that graphic shows how stark our situation has been compared to the rest of the country. Let’s change the trend…

Doesn’t need to flip until December, at the earliest. No sense wasting all the good teleconnections in November, when most of us can’t get snow anyway, despite the upper air patterns.

My in-laws measured a bit over 1 inch in Black Mountain. They must be at lower elevations (near Owen HS) than wherever @Hvward has his home.

We hit a low of 24.6 around 5:30 AM. Back up to 29 right now.

Snowing really good in Cullowhee at WCU right now. I’ve been FaceTiming with my daughter there. She was letting me vicariously enjoy a Jeb walk as she walked around campus. It’s been coming down really well for the past couple of hours there. A truly beautiful early season gift for that community, and Cullowhee doesn’t tend to get big snows being down in the valley like they are. It’s amazing the joy that crystallized water falling out of the sky can bring…

Where is everyone!? Snow is accumulating southeast of Charlotte!

We’re trying not to cry that it’s easier to get snow in SC than it is in the NW Piedmont and Foothills of NC.
Five horrible winters in a row have taken a toll…
Seriously, though, that is awesome for those getting snow so early. Those kids must be loving it! November snow is an amazingly rare treat outside of the mountains, much more so in the Sandhills.

I saw zero flakes here in Hickory. As usual, it jumps right over us in the immediate lee of the Apps. On another note, it’s already down to 32!

It's crazy dark and windy here in Hickory. Feels and looks like snow. Raging virga storm on radar.

I picked up almost one half inch between midnight at 6:30 AM. That was after another 0.2 between 6-9 PM. Rainfall is also on our doorstep again this morning. This is all very welcome.

50 at my place. Late September looks above average. We all knew we would pay for this eventually right?
I will gladly trade above average late September for below average August. Seems like an obvious win to me.

Went camping at Roan Mountain SP this weekend. Phenomenal weather other than a passing shower or two yesterday evening. This is great!

High of 82.8 at 4:10pm. 5.22" over the whole event. 6.20" for the month so far. Can't believe the flooding at Bond Park!
Separately, this may be the last transmission from my OG Davis Vantage Vue. I'm tired of replacing the battery (also $$$) as I've fallen victim to the capacitor issue. Also developed comms issues with the station.
2008-2025, RIP. Looking forward to the new touch screen model scheduled to arrive next week.
I’m on my second Vantage Vue. I didn’t realize they had come out with a new touchscreen model.

Hardly any rain here in Hickory today, just about one tenth of precipitation. The heavier axis of precipitation never retrograded enough to affect us. Point-and-click forecasts up to an inch of rainfall tonight and over half an inch tomorrow. We shall see, but radar returns are quite paltry over the entire southeast at the moment.

The axis of heaviest rainfall continues to be to the south and east of Hickory, essentially along I-85, this morning. The axis may be drifting ever so slightly north and west, but the point-and-click forecasts seem to be misplaced based on the observed conditions.
-
Ended up with 1.36 inches overnight since it began at 6:30 PM yesterday evening. No rain currently, and the heavy axis of rain is to our south and east. It appears to be drifting northward, but we shall see.

Made it up to 78.4 today after not reaching 70 either of the previous two days. My low this morning was 61.7. Very nice for August 4!
Currently 66.8 and moderate rain.

Started raining around 6:30 PM. I have accumulated 0.6 inch of rain so far, or 0.15 inch per hour, which is way more than the 0.03 inch per hour shown in the hourly forecast on the point and click from NWS. We have already exceeded the “quarter to half inch” of rainfall we were supposed to get overnight, and the night is still very young. Lots of moisture downstream. The HiRes NAM forecast of close to six inches over the next 60 hours looks much more likely to transpire than the GFS forecast of an inch or so.

I got an inch and a half of rain overnight. Crazy! Was not expecting that. Cool and cloudy right now.

Those are awesome, @eyewall! I love how the reds (bricks, leaves, trunks, pillars) stand out!
