  1. Storm may be 6 days out and there are a dozen things to figure out, but it's actually on approach to the west coast now.
  2. I wonder if we can go a whole winter with the primary storm track being NM -> MN -> through NE. Brick wall at the Canadian border.
  3. The Canadian Op is wild for next week. Massive ocean storm spinning just offshore followed by what looks like could be biggie setting up for the following weekend.
  4. You know what would be helpful? If someone who is good at computer graphics could create a composite snowfall map from the last 10 SWFEs. Then when one shows up in the models, we would all know what we are getting....plus/minus X% based on anticipated storm characteristics. I'll gladly take the standard 6" from a SWFE right now. At least cover up the dead.
  5. I've gotten out twice since buying a house end of July. Once down the Cape at https://bluerockgolfcourse.com/, where I shot 56 (par 3 course). And once at a local course, http://www.greenmeadowgolfclub.com/, where I shot 74 (par 70) and +1 on a 3rd 9 holes. Irons and putting saved me. Zero touch when I missed a green.
  6. The acorn's this year are out of control. Piles and piles of them.
  7. Bought a house over the summer. Landscaping was ok, but in rough shape because previous owners moved out in April. Everything I've done (cutting grass, pulling weeds, removing shrubs, etc.) has been about setting up yard for next year. What should I be doing to "put the lawn to bed" for the winter?
  8. 12/9/05 (Brockton) - stinger CCB with vivid lightning 1/27-28/13 (Nashua) - 33" (personal best) Blizzard of 2005 (Brockton) - week off from school October Snow 2011 (Lowell) - off campus apartment didn't lose power, but my former dorm did and my buddies gave me all their beer (Guessing on the date) 7/6/1999 Hail Storm (Brockton) - hit while I was pitching in an all-star baseball tournament as storm hit
  9. Woof. Made a Quad on the 1st hole.
  10. In my opinion, my ideal US Open winning score is even par. If you shoot 72 four days in a row, your name should be near top of leader board. The player with the best combination of GIR and putting should win the golf tournament. However, for the British Open, I want creativity. I'll never forget a shot Vijay played years ago (can't remember how long ago). From say 50 yards from the pin, he purposefully played 30 yards left of hole and off green into a series of undulations that propelled the ball right to the hole.
  11. Really looking for to the US Open this year. Just wish these pampered professionals would quit whining about the USGA and the golf course set up (see: Phil, Rory, Tiger, etc). Like shut up. You show up to the course, warm up, get a massage, have lunch, talk to your therapist, warm up again, and play golf with clubs perfectly tuned to your swing that someone else carries for you. Try strolling up to the local muni track 5 mins before tee time, chug 2 beers and go like the rest of us. Then let's see how they do. Brooks Keopka's comments yesterday really made me like him. Something to the effect of: "Those guys are complaining because they didn't play well."
  12. At the Doctors office the other day I picked up the Golf magazine and read it through the the appointment, the nurse asked me how golf season was going. I replied with "It isn't." I've been out twice this year. This weather has not been kind to getting rounds in.
  13. So I get to the office yesterday morning and the internet is out. Annoyingly, we're pretty dead in the water without internet. So I caught the 2:15 train out of the city and back to southern New Hampshire. It's 330 pm on a 50F and semi-misting day, so I figure there will be no one at the course and I'll get in my first 18 of the year. I show up and the parking lot is jammed. Turns out leagues have started. Luckily, there are two 18s and one of the 9s was open. I was by myself with no one in front of me or behind me by at least 3 holes. I played 3 or 4 balls on each hole. So 9 turned into 27-36. Played those 9 in 2 hours and got home in time for the wife. Was a good late afternoon.
  14. Sent my clubs into the shop this past weekend. Getting them shortened by 3/4". They had an extra 2" in them, but last year I changed set up to have a more athletic swing and I started hitting things heavy. So shortening to account for that.
  15. Love this thread. Last year was the best golf season of my life. Got my handicap down to a 3. Shot even par for the first (i make a lot of pars, not enough birdies). Golf shop near me just put in two of those trackman machines. I was over there the other day, thinking about tinkering with the length of a few of my clubs, and the guy put me in the trackman bay. My 7 iron ball speed averaged 127.8 mph. Apparently that's quite a bit faster than the average tour pro: https://blog.trackmangolf.com/trackman-average-tour-stats/ Only problem is my that my spin rate was like 1500 rpms higher. So definitely need to find a lower spinning ball.
  16. If this mega band could start to pivot around to NW-SE then I might make a run at 2'.
  17. Finally got into some good dendrites the last hour. First 6 hours were crappy crystals.
  18. LOL at this storm. Two mega bands died on my doorstep and now the next one forms on my back porch. Can't win.
  19. If our storm center wanted to magically start gaining some latitude that'd be great.
  20. That metro west band dissolved faster than a thunderstorm crossing 495 in the summer.
  21. Metro west band is dissolving. It was slo close I could reach out and touch it. Oh well.
  22. My sleepy brain when I woke up was like "Damn, screw zoned".
