  1. Driving from Marion to Asheville was white knuckle for sure. Bad accident in Buncombe and a sheet of water coming down Old Fort mountain. Each time they pave the interstate and redo the center barrier. it does nothing to help with drainage. One of the worst places to hydroplane in the middle of a curve coming down a steep mountain...
  2. I missed 2009 in college in VA Beach, but it was the first 12"+ snow in greater McDowell since Jan 96. It's been 7 years since our last 12" snow. 2022 was close but not quite.
  3. Honestly a lot of our best snows the past 20 years have been before or near Christmas storms. 2009 big storm area wide 10-16" 2010 Christmas snow are wide 6-12" 2017 overrunning snow area wide 4-8" 2018 big storm area wide 10-16" And by area wide I mean WNC
  4. If we can keep some blocking, we might score before Christmas this year
  5. Models are waffling about how much rain will fall Monday-Wednesday of next week. They are starting to trend further south with the initial upper low leaving some areas mostly dry Monday-Tuesday
  6. Traditionally, I live in one of the coldest areas in McDowell during ideal radiational cooling night. I'm close to the Catawba river and sheltered by mountains to my south.
  7. If the clouds stay away, I bet tonight is colder for most of us.
  8. Has to be the lake or did the breeze keep going?
  9. 33.5. More light frost. Ready for the first freeze. Maybe in about 7-10 days.
  10. Lately if we score in a Nina it's in December.
  11. Its already 45 here. I think we get colder than last night and maybe have some frost in the morning
  12. 38 here when the breeze stopped for a bit
  13. My 5 year old barely knows what snow is. I would love to see a graphic/map that shows the difference between actual and average snowfall for the east coast. Most of western NC/SC has to be one of the biggest losers since 2019.
  14. There's little reason to be positive for my area. We haven't reached winter storm warning criteria since 2022 and that was the only time it has been reached since 2018. This is the biggest snow drought in modern history for this area. 16 inches of snow in 7 winters. 11 of that in one storm. Take that storm away and it's 5 inches of snow in 7 winters. 4 of those winters with 0 snow. With the way this winter is setting up, I would be surprised to get a winter storm warning event.
  15. 41 at mi casa. Might be some light frost late next week.
  16. Warm and dry similar to this month's pattern
