  1. That's a cold Christmas night.. May be the coldest in my lifetime
  2. It's God awful. No matter which side of the fence you are on, it's obvious that the federal government has destroyed the national weather service...their funding is pitiful.
  3. It's amazing how the mountains can squeeze out snow out of nothing
  4. GFS agrees that a nice NWFS is coming for Christmas
  5. Surprised that none of you northwest flow peeps didn't mention the Euro. Shows a healthy looking event after the frontal passage near Christmas eve.
  6. Looking at a blend of the models, it looks like a quick shot of cold air then warming back up..
  7. Pretty decent accrual here on ridge tops above 1800. Will try and upload pics later.
  8. One thing I know for sure, the ground is incredibly saturated. We may get close to another inch of rain at this rate and are heading for our 6th month in a row of above average rainfall
  9. Minimal icing here too and 31.8. It just dropped below freezing recently and the rain looks to be about over for a few hours at least
  10. Shows a big time cold shot at least. That's step 1
  11. We went from 29.5 to 36.1 but the breeze has kicked in from the NE
  12. We have already reached our forecasted low of 29. Clouds are coming but I think we can get down to 27 before they get thick
  13. Yep, I have family in Java and Chatham and it's higher than Danville too.
  14. That app sucks honestly as do most phone weather apps. I live very close to a river so I'm almost always colder than the closest airport on clear, calm nights
  15. 32.7 here. Dropped 13 degrees in 2.5 hours
  16. It's dropping fast, we may make a run at the 20s before clouds roll in
  17. Gonna get some good radiational cooling here. Already dipped down to 40 and mostly clear still
  18. I noticed that it was colder in the upper levels for the mountains too, close to being all snow and sleet for Mitchell County up to Watauga
  19. The wet ground surely isn't going to help if we get heavy accrual on trees...
  20. I'm afraid of that too. The new NAM suggests it but the HRRR think we get a heavy dose of sleet. I have seen models overdo zr and underdo sleet in these setups.
  21. anyone chasing this one? Some models have over 2 feet in PA.
  22. It's the long range HRRR but I have seen a few models showing a changeover to snow before ending for the mountains and adjacent foothills. Could be totally bogus but worth a mention.
  23. I hope they are right, great post Grit..
