Best run of the system so far on the GFS and most of the moisture falls at night in Western NC which will help some with borderline surface temps.

Western NC mountains and foothills heavy snow at 102. Quicker than other models

The low pressure is farther south so far on the GFS as compared to the 18Z run

I will take a hard pass on that analog. See that downsloping area with no snow cover? That's MBY. Agonizing storm after multiple awful winters here.

We don't need vodka cold but this is marginal cold even for favored locations. If you are south of 85 and 40 it's going to be tough to get any wintry IMO. Mountains are prime spot as per usual.

You are all forgetting one big issue- The vodka cold is all in Siberia. Canada is well above average.

Multiple chances for snow in the mountains the next week to 10 days according to Euro. Elevation could be key with the marginal cold air.

One of the big issues I am seeing on the operational models is the lack of arctic air. Yes the blocking is there but the temps are marginal even for the mountains later in the runs. Unfortunately the other side of the globe has the majority of the cold air..

1.3 so far and 42 degrees. NE breeze at times making for a nasty new years day

Robert (WxSouth) is very good but idk if he is considered mainstream. I do like Chris Justus because I think he loves snow as much as we do

Oh I agree, sometimes his wordage annoys me. He loves to make absolutes and it bites him in the a$% sometimes.
