  1. Another nice spring day on tap. Just saw DCA has been 60 or above 20 out of the last 22 days with 10 days above 70. GREAT spring so far, and looking at a long string of highs in the 60s coming up. I even saw a hummingbird at the feeder this morning, which is about 10-15 days early compared to past years.
  2. Thunderstorm was pretty intense here a couple hours ago, and there were so many white petals mixed in from a huge flowering tree that it looked like a snow squall. I don't have my gauge up yet but that had to be about 1.0-1.5 in about a half hour. A few good lightning strikes too.
  3. Yeah this is too warm too soon. Dulles at 83 and DCA at 82. I like the next seven days with all 60s and low 70s. That's more like it!
  4. Yeesh upper 30/low 40s in early afternoon on April 2 with full sun. If the sky clears and the winds drop tonight, we'll have some frosty temps.
  5. Snow shower in Germantown. Hard to believe we were in the 80s a few days ago. Back in the mid 1980s (in Calvert) in April, we hit 96 degrees one day, and four days later had a snow squall that put down a dusting.
  6. Nice! Deer and rabbits hate me. I plant tropical milkweed, lantana and annual vinca. It's a food desert for those remorseless stomachs with legs.
  7. Was surprised to see a brief graupel shower a few minutes ago. Looking forward to low 70s next week -- hummingbirds are into Virginia.
  8. Darn gusts woke me up a bunch of times overnight. I better go check that siding...
  9. It's in the point-and-click too. Maybe a little inside joke about them bringing in the snow boards?
  10. THANK YOU ORAL ROBERTS! Any time the Gators lose is a holiday
  11. Rooting for the Terps as both kids go there. Glad my Noles won, but they've been looking sloppy. What the hell Ohio State LOL
  12. I don't trust this place one bit. A few years ago I planted some annuals a little early and we got down to 23 in the last week of April. I am waiting until May.
  13. Multiple recent reports in Denver area of just 3-6 on the ground. Getting the mid-atlantic treatment?
  14. I was flipping through pictures and was amazed at how crazy March 2014 was. We had March 3 with 5-6 inches with temps in the TEENS the next day. Then about 10" on March 17 and I think it might have snowed one more time at the end of the month. I agree with Mappy though and this 6-10 day outlook pleases me
  15. Interesting USA Today article on La Nina and this year's severe season: The temperature of the water in the central and eastern tropical Pacific during February 2021 is similar to the La Niña pattern in February 2011," AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Pastelok said. Pastelok said the mid- to lower-Mississippi Valley and the mid-Atlantic regions will have the highest risk for severe weather this spring. Link
  16. Wait, I was poking around that area looking at elevations and found this -- so NY State has the Tug Hill and you guys have the Dug Hill!
  17. Your micro-climate is really fascinating. It makes you wonder what it would be like if you had elevations of say 2500 feet in that area.
  18. Amazing how different the winter was there compared to Germantown, over about a 45 minute driving distance. All sleet here now 31 degrees.
  19. Alrighty North Balti, time to get you some of these
  20. Wow 45 inches total in Manchester? That's incredible. Here are the airport numbers for comparison: DCA: 5.3 (most in one day 2.3) Dulles: 11.8 (most in one day 3.0) BWI: 10.0 (most in one day 3.8) DCA has a grand total of three days of max 32 or below, and all three were 31 or 32.
  21. I like what I see on the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks. Lets pump that SE ridge!
  22. It's understandable since so many have missed the good snows with every system this winter, and this would have been an amazing thump had it been snow. It's frustrating.
  23. Rain/sleet mix and 26. LOL zone forecast still has 3-5" new snow for today. Please let this 8-14 day outlook be right. I hope a huge SE ridge sets up and puts a bullet between the eyes of this pathetic winter.
  24. Got a tray of tropical milkweed seeds started today. Looking forward to spring!
