  1. Ha I don't remember any NNE trolling. I'm usually on that shit like white on rice . I think it's important to keep expectations in check, but maybe easy for the guy who's seen record cold and snow cover for the last week. SNE winter climo though is such that it has been proven time and time again that you really just need a favorable 4-6 week period and the winter can be awesome. Heck 2015 showed you can be ready to drown kittens in later January and then have an all-time winter wrapped up into about a month. No reason to cancel winter even for at least two months.
  2. The best I can do is 4 events of 18” or more in a calendar year in two different spots lol. From 12/24/2002 to 12/24/2003 I saw two in ALB and two in BTV. Back during the interior golden years when it seemed every deform band was in eastern NY or western New England. I still remember moving to UVM in BTV and the first December of Freshman year it snows 50” in the Champlain Valley. I remember being like holy crap, this NVT stuff is real! Then you learn that BTV is the snow hole and while you got 50” in a month, other spots were doing 60-80” lol.
  3. We could be in Alaska, I was just reading how the sun will set on Barrows tomorrow....and then rise again in two months, lol. I agree, November is rough. Even in Feb and March when you don’t get snow it’s at least light out till 6-7pm. The lack of daylight drives me nuts.
  4. Looks like BDL’s 46/37 for a mean of 42F today is dead on average. So today is what an average day should feel like in November.
  5. Ha, don’t worry, you’re one snow squall away from above normal snow right now.
  6. Ahhh the 300th hour of the 18z GFS. I’m surprised you had to go out that far in time to find something to troll SNE snow lovers with .
  7. Those average highs are mind boggling.
  8. Utterly obscene. It’s hard to match these departures over a 17-day period. I mean MPV/MVL are both almost -10 on the month. For here... 5 of the last 6 days had departures of -19F or lower, as much as -26F a day. BTV... -7.9 1V4... -8.9 MVL... -9.3 MPV... -9.4 This is holy shit level of cold departures.
  10. It has been so ridiculously cold, it's hard to really comprehend. BTV's average max/min for today is 45/31. The record high temp is 70F. This morning set a record low of 7F. A 130+ year period of record. BTV is -7.4 on the month so far. This is incredible given they usually have a +2 baseline.
  11. I can’t even figure out how much it precipitates up here. 18z NAM has 0.02” at MVL. 18z GFS has 0.71” at MVL. Thats pretty big on a 36 hour forecast. One is a non-event, the other is a 1/3rd of inch of ice followed by 3” snow...decent impact.
  12. Yeah I’m with you. Even if it flips over it’s still pretty warm in the boundary layer. Not uncommon for those ULL type precip batches to flash colder but still, maybe someone gets a wet coating?
  13. Ha, much easier to take when it’s icing or rain that gets pulled away at the last moment.
  14. This weekend could've been worse. Two full bluebird days without a cloud in the sky during what is historically the cloudiest month of the year.
  15. Island Pond, VT at the ISPV1 station had a low of -11F and a high of 39F.... nice 50-degree diurnal swing.
  16. Check out this 50-degree diurnal swing at Island Pond, VT.... ISPV1 went from a low of -11F to a high of 39F. Thats like tree trunk popping cold to start the day and then hoodie weather in the afternoon. Edit: that 39F High seems suspect. Even BTV only hit 36F, MVL 34F and MPV 30F.
  17. Honestly that's probably the best comparison I've heard yet. I love when someone asks why a weather lover gets emotionally tied to an outcome when you have absolutely no control over the outcome.... well, folks.... enter professional sports! Millions of people get very emotionally involved over stuff they have no control over.... watching the model runs come out is like watching your favorite sports team play 4 times a day, lol. Hell people even set cities on fire over sporting outcomes they had no control over. Makes weenies seem tame by comparison.
  18. We mixing.... the golf course station on the other side of the river has gone from -3F to 26F so far today. Feels warm outside at 26F for sure. MVL looks to be following right along, jumping up 7F per hour this morning.
  19. Brrrrr... Island Pond, VT (ISPV1) -11F SLK -9F BML -6F EFK -5F HIE -4F MVL -4F
  20. Yeah that's tough news. He was young. RIP. Used to talk Champlain Valley climo a bunch when he was at Middlebury and I was at UVM.
  21. Good quality snow out there today... cold but no wind and full sunshine...felt warmer than the temperature said.
  22. Went for a hike today to get some fresh tracks. Beautiful bluebird day to be wandering around on skis.
  23. Funny you used those terms as you seem to be the only one implying that deep November cold should mean huge snows. Everyone else seems to understand what November means. You seem to have an unrealistic and optimistic view of local climo . You always say you don’t like snow but then make sure to point out every day it’s not snowing in SNE...it does come off a little strong from time to time as a way to get snow-lovers anxious. So far everyone seems to have a great grasp on expectations in mid-November.
  24. Seems to clear up the idea that big cold means big snowstorms in November.
