We invert again. MWN at 29F at 6,200ft and 23F at 1,600ft. It's 32F at 2,600ft here and 25F at 750ft.

Same up here. This is with the iPhone night mode, so it’s naturally a bit juiced up in the photo from that, but very clear and visible.

30/21 Chimney smoke here is making it about 30 feet overhead then going 90 degrees sideways. Inversion is low, haha.

I guess in my mind it wasn’t just colder with height through the column. Good rad night when MWN is warmest place around. Just went from 20F to 34F at 2,600ft as the inversion broke.

Yeah this was radiational delight even up to 4,000ft. Looks like the inversion was around 4,500ft.

There was WAA at 850mb. What are you talking about? The inversion was just up higher than it normally is but it’s the same “fake” properties.

23/18 outside up here at 9:30pm. The bottom has fallen out quickly this evening across New England with the departing high. 25/19 down in TAN is pretty chilly for this time of evening.

No it’s almost 100% RH up there, very decoupled. Currently looking at the snowmaking system from home shows wet bulbs of: 3,600ft… 19F 2,600ft… 22F 1,500ft… 23F All seem to have stabilized around those levels so that’s probably about what it can radiate too. The crew has the fan guns back on in the base area which is good to see. Wasn’t forecasting that, I went warmer tonight… I text them to say I was wrong lol, the inversion is up above summit level. I’d assume that depth will shrink throughout the night though.

Is it fake? 27F here but it’s 19F up at the picnic tables. Looking at MWN profiles the inversion is up at like 4,500ft. Guess it’s fake below that elevation.

We hit 22F, had a brief period of decoupling around 2am. Temp came up after that.

That's a valid concern for water availability at hills in the drought/brush fire zone. Interesting to see how that affects snowmaking operations... but does it matter with these temperatures?

Novie starting off +8.4 up here but looks like 4 of 9 days so far will register below normal. -1 to -5 departures during cold interludes, and +18 to +23 departures during warm intervals.

Haha true, but any pattern change has to give a colder vibe than the current one. Sure, maybe it’s recycled Maritime air but need to start somewhere. Sometimes I think I’m pessimistic but Scooter is just a broken man.

Yeah 72 hours of teens would do it. That extra 500 verts makes a lot of difference… so often snowmaking gets to 2,500-2,000ft this time of year then stops. I want to see 850mb temps under -10C for like three days. 1500ft is also mid-slope climate and like Kevin’s yard… the surface inversion is below that usually. So we get nighttime profiles where it’s like 24F in town, 34F at 1500ft, and 24F up top. It’s a challenge to get all 2,100 verts sufficiently buried this time of year without some legit cold. It’s always fine on the top 1000-1500 feet.

Yeah I think we are behind a bit. There are some cold temps at times in the models but it’s going to be a struggle to get down to the base area. Even today was chilly but not great, production was slow going, a lot more air than water. I’m not convinced we hit the 22nd. I think it could be more like Thanksgiving.

Some place in New Mexico… Monte Aplanado? Record snowfall. Long wave troughing out west and eastern ridging feels like a persistent pattern for numerous cold seasons lately. We need a win here on the east coast this year.

Some of these photos coming out of CO (especially south of Denver towards Colorado Spring) are pretty impressive for the lower elevations in early November. These are inhabited areas, many with at least some leaves left on the trees… not necessarily up in the mtns. Some places are in the 3-4” SWE range with a bit more to go. They’ve got another night to go with that cut-off low.

Hail/graupel here too. Pounding chunky frozen something.

We just need normal temps. It’s been like pulling teeth but normal will get it done, ha.

I love the super local variations we see around here due to the terrain and mixing. You can tell where the air is moving swiftly, tapping into that higher level flow vs settling out calmly based on the temp.
