Temp dropped to 33 here in Astoria. Snow sticking to cars, grass, colder surfaces. Streets, sidewalks are still mostly wet.

Light snow/rain here in Astoria. Nothing sticking, even to colder surfaces.
-
Makes sense since air temps have been above normal all winter.
-
Got to get that wind to swing around. An ESE wind won't cut it for snow for LI/NYC.
-
But that is at 10:1. I don't think we will get those ratios with the borderline temps predicted. more like 8:1.

I was looking at some of the soundings for the Mon night/Tues AM storm. I am not impressed with the amount of cold air that they are showing. Some even show a nose of warm air at the mid levels, which could lead to lower snow fall totals, as the precip melts when it goes thru it. Thoughts?

They do have to deal with the ground regularly shaking, and opening up.
-
I am so jaded this winter in terms of possible snowfall, that I am at the "I will believe it when I actually see the snow on the ground" stage.
-
With a low going up in to Ontario, that coastal system better take over fast, and get really wrapped up to bring in cold air. Otherwise it will just be another disappointment for coastal areas. A weak secondary off the coast of NJ won't do it.
-
I was more talking about the one in the image posted, which would take place the first weekend of march.
-
I will believe it when it in the 5 day range.
-
I cannot believe that yesterday Mercer county NJ got an EF2 tornado, in f-ing February. Confirmed by NWS.
-
I got about 0.1" of snow in Astoria, so that tracks.
-
I have not seen nary a flake here in Astoria. Pure rain. 37 degrees.
-
Obviously my comment is for today's/tonight's storm only. Winds right now are due east, swinging to ESE later today.
-
40 degrees by me. NYC will not see a flake, an ice pellet, or a drop of graupel.
-
I wouldn't hold my breath.
-
I am at the "wake me when it is showing within 5 days for any snow/prolonged cold" stage right now.
-
Same here in Astoria. I did not have thunderstorms in NYC on January 19th on my scorecard. Yet here we are.

I did not have thunderstorms in NYC on January 19th on my scorecard. Yet here we are. Some nice booming thunder too boot.

I need the weather on the 26th and 30th to be nice enough for me to fly out and then back in to LGA. *crosses fingers*

January showers bring February flowers?
-
I think it all depends on how much ocean moisture/any redevelopment that might occur that affects the snowfall total from clippers. But I remember plenty of clippers bringing just a dusting to a couple of inches of snow when I was a kid, and early adult years. I was always hoping we would get school cancellations out of them, but rarely happened.

Thanks.

What does history tell us how the rest of winter will be for the NYC area, when there is only a trace of snow in December in CP/LGA/JFK?
