  1. Some spots in Chester County will have a chance to get above freezing for the 1st time since 11:40 am on the 23rd. I saw some local neighbors out on their pond playing a little ice hockey yesterday. However, ice hockey may become more difficult as we move toward the final few days of 2021. We look to see temps warming to above normal starting tomorrow and look to stay that way for likely the next 13 or so days. The models are starting to hint at another return to colder somewhere around the 10th of the New Year. It does look like some rain is likely on NY Eve into NY Day. The record high for today is 62 degrees from 1949. The record low is 3 degrees below zero today in 1914. The daily rain record is the 1.50" from 1930. Daily snow record is the 4.7" that fell on this date in 1935.
  2. We finished the combined Christmas Eve and Day holiday as the 3rd coldest in history behind only 1983 and 1980. Today should be our last below freezing day with our warming trend getting underway. We should stay dry till New Year's Eve. There is no sign of any cold weather returning till at least the 2nd week of January. The record high for today is 67 degrees set in 1964. The record low is 2 below zero from 1980. The record precipitation is the 2.50" from 1909. That is also the record daily snow for the date as an additional 25" of snow fell on this date bringing the 2 day storm total to a whopping 38".
  3. Merry Christmas to all! Yesterday was the coldest Christmas Eve average temperature since records began in 1894. The average temperature was 7.9 degrees beating the old record of 9.5 set in 1983. Our AM low here in East Nantmeal was 11.2 degrees this is the coldest Christmas low temperature since the 10 degree reading in 1989. We should see below normal temperatures continue through Tuesday. A warming trend will get under way with temps reaching well into the 50's to near 60 by New Year's Day. That warming trend should carry us through the first week of the new year. There are signs of colder weather returning again around the 8th of January. The record high today is 67 from 1964. The record low is 6 below zero set in 1980. Record precipitation is the 1.93" that fell in 2002...of note the rain turned to snow that Christmas morning with 5.8" of snow falling. The record snowfall on Christmas Day is the 13" that fell in 1909 of note that was just the beginning of a 2 day blizzard that would see another 25" falling the day after Christmas for a storm total of 38" that was the 2nd greatest snowstorm in Chester County history - behind only the 45.3" of snow that fell during the February Blizzard of 1899 ending on February 14, 1899.
  4. Merry Christmas to all the great folks on this site! It looks like we ended up with a high of 13.0 - it looks like we will best by 1.6 degrees for the coldest ever average Christmas Eve temperature on record....an impressive record for sure. It has been tough to break daily cold records during our current warmer cycle. All the best! Paul
  5. Our low this morning reached 2.8 above zero here in East Nantmeal. This is the coldest reading since the 4.8 degrees below zero back on January 31, 2019. It is also the coldest December reading since the 1 degree above zero reading on December 22, 1989. A pretty incredible stat about the range of temperatures yesterday. There was a 50.9 degree difference between our high temperature of 55.4 and low of 4.5 degrees. That is the 2nd largest temperature range ever over 47,108 days or 129 years since record keeping began in Chester County on January 1, 1894. The largest range in temps ever was the 52 degree range we experienced on April 3, 1967 with a high of 81 degrees and a low of 29 degrees. If the forecast high today of only 14 degrees is realized this will end up being the coldest daily average (+8.4 degrees) Christmas Eve in Chester County history. The current coldest Christmas Eve was the 9.5 average temp ( Hi 20 Lo -1) from 1983. The record high for today is 68.5 degrees from 2015. The record low is the 2 below zero from 1980. Daily rain record is the 1.63" from 1986. The daily snow record is the 20.0" that fell today in 1966. That 2 day snowstorm ended giving us 21.2" of snow that included frequent thunder and lightning along with the heavy snow on Christmas Eve.
  6. We ended up with 1.27" of liquid equivalent and 0.5" of snow. Of note the current temp is 15.6 - despite the warmest temperature so far this December at 2:51am today we have also already recorded the coldest reading of December so far.
  7. We finished with 0.5" of snow here in East Nantmeal. Our 2nd snow "event" of the season. We now stand at an impressive 0.8" of snow for the season! Temp is down to 24.9 on VP and 23.2 on Tempest on the roof
  8. roads are fine but with temp plunging suspect icy spots will be starting soon - temp here is down to 27.9
  9. 30.0 snow looks to be almost over - small accumulation will measure when it stops
  10. Ground getting white - temp is wrong on camera program we are down to 32.4
  11. We just changed to snow here in East Nantmeal - temp is down to 39.1
  12. Where is that forecast from??...I would be surprised if many actually see even 1" of snow from this.....
  13. Closing in on a 1" rain total so far. Temp has dropped almost 14 degrees with the initial cool front....HRRR has temps in the single digits by 6pm and still has some festivus snow
  14. Since yesterday we have recorded 0.97" of rain here in East Nantmeal with 0.14" since midnight. We have already reached our high for the day as an initial cool front passed through earlier this AM. The high was 55.4 at 2:51am we have now dropped over 13 degrees to 41.9 as of 838am. The actual arctic front still looks on tap to pass through the county from west to east during the 10 am hour. We should see briefly heavy rain turn to snow which could last for a couple of hours before ending. The latest HRRR short range model still shows some spots in Western Chester County picking up a quick inch of snow. Either way it shows temps falling into the teens by 1pm and the single digits by 7pm this evening. The record high today is 65.3 set back in 2015. The record low is zero set in 1960. The daily rain record is 1.41" set in 1907. The record snow for today is the 6.2" that fell today back in 1963.
  15. I don't think that map would ever produce....HP moving out - not ideal IMHO
  16. Latest NAM still bringing around 1" of festivus snows for some in Chester County
  17. The latest models continues to show the potential for a small accumulation of snow following the cold front passage tomorrow morning. The NWS has trended even colder for Saturday - now forecasting the record lowest high temperature ever recorded (since 1894) for Christmas Eve Day with a high of only 17 now forecast. GFS
  18. Steady ZR temp at 31.1 DP 29.3 -hearing of some accidents being reported in the area
  19. Light ZR and 31.5 (DP 29.4) here in East Nantmeal Township in Chester County PA. Heavy snow falling just 15 miles NW of here
  20. GFS keep festivus miracle hopes alive....just choose to believe!!! Getting my snow blower all tuned up!!!
  21. Indeed!! if we actually shoveled model snow output my snow blower would break down every year!
  22. The NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Western Chester County (not Eastern Chesco) for this morning till 11am. We have some light freezing rain falling here now in East Nantmeal Twp. with a temperature at 30.9 degrees. This should change to plain rain over the next couple of hours. Plenty of rain on the way with over 2" falling before the cold front passes later tomorrow. That front should briefly turn the rain over to snow before ending. Some models still show a minor accumulation with the exception of the GFS which shows up to a couple of inches in spots across the County, Either way temps will tumble from near 50 in the morning to near 10 degrees by tomorrow evening. The record high for today is 64.7 from 2013, The record low is 1 below zero set in 1960. Record rain is the 1.63" from 1983. Our record snow is the 5.8" that fell today in 1908.
  23. Per Joe Bastardi at WeatherBell "Models cant handle it as the pattern is in transition. So I am going to old school this. Positive at the top of Hudson Bay and shortening wavelengths argue to me for the coastal storm. Models are trying to develop a ridge ( which is coming) so the different branches get lost. So I believe we have the snow threat next week coming into the plains day 5. Ohio and Tennessee valley day 6 and on the east coast day 7. If I did not have almost all models telling me that is not going to happen, I would really be chomping at the bit But they could be right. The fact is the upper negative is right in the slot on the Euro packages. The GFS just kicks everything along as it always does I like it. I guess we will find out if I am right next week"
  24. Agreed! I can't remember the last time we have seen snow accumulate following the FROPA
