  1. Temps near 90 are possible both today and tomorrow across many spots in Chester County today. Favored spots to reach the 90 degree mark will be locations below 550 feet asl. The record high for today is 100.5 set back in 1900. The record low is 47 degrees from 1989. The daily rainfall record is 1.81" from 1910.
  2. Very few 90's across most of Western Chester County today....best we could do was 86 at KMQS and 85.1 at East Nantmeal. It does look like KPTW in Pottstown hit 88 degrees.
  3. As you ascend the Welsh Mountain anticline as you near my house....I do tell folks to have the oxygen mask at the ready....just in case!
  4. I suspect our last chances of a 90 degree day across the higher spots of Chester County will be over the next few days. If we fail to see a 90 degree reading by Tuesday PM that may be it until next summer. Still only 1 rounded up 90 degree day in East Nantmeal this summer! Today's record high is also the hottest temperature ever recorded in Chester County with the 107 degree reading today back in 1918. Our record low is the 49 degrees set back in 1997. The daily rainfall record is 1.58" set back in 1913.
  5. I think next summer I may start renting my house as a summer destination retreat!!!
  6. Another 0.35" of rain fell yesterday in East Nantmeal. So we are already over 2.5 x of normal rainfall through the first 5 days of August. We are also exactly normal regarding temperatures so far here in the month. Our record high today is a toasty 104 set way back in 1914. The record low is 45 set in 1957. The daily rainfall record is 2.17" from 1938.
  7. I was not in Chester County last night but according to some neighbors it was a pretty intense thunderstorm. My power appears to have briefly gone out around 730pm and looks to have impacted my rainfall amounts. I am not local to read the manual gauge...but my Tempest station measured 1.24" of rain last night. My wife heard from a neighbor who measured over an inch....any other folks with that much rain last evening? Most locations across Chester County did record a 90+ day yesterday. Unsurprisingly in East Nantmeal we could do no better than 88.1. Still just one 90 degree day this summer! Today's record high is 99 set in 1930. Our record low is the 45 degrees in 1951. Our daily rainfall record is 1.41"
  8. Of note both KMQS and KPTW both made it to 91.4 today for their hottest temps so far this summer yet for both only their 8th day over 90 all summer! Here in NW Chesco in East Nantmeal....only my poorly sited rooftop Tempest station could record a 90 plus day with a 91.4 high today. Unsurprisingly the well sited stations both the VP2 and Ambient units at my location could do no hotter than 88.1 and 88.2 respectively. Proper siting always wins! I am not home to measure rain and the VP seems clogged but the Tempest has recorded 1.17" of rain so far with the storm....not sure I buy it and of course will wait for the coco bucket measure to use as climate data. As you all know I am I suspect the biggest climate data fact weather weenie on this site and trust me I will of course be sure to update the data when I get the "official" reading.
  9. You need to move to the Chester County climate to escape those pesky 90+ days!!
  10. Amazing how warm you run there compared to Chester County! East Nantmeal only 86.8 / KPTW airport 87.1 / KMQS 89.6 / Elverson and Downingtown (Hawk Hill) 89.6 - Even the hottest place with UHI contamination PHL airport is only 93
  11. Today will likely be the only likely day for at least the next week that the county will have a chance at a 90 day. Down in Philadelphia they are at day #3 today with a likely 90+ streak that will reach 8 days just from this current heat wave. If suburban airports at Coatesville and Pottstown hit 90 today....they would have only seen 8 days at 90 or above.... all summer! Our record high today is 98 degrees from 1944. The record low is 47 degrees in 1951. The record daily rainfall record occurred just 2 years ago when we received a 5.83" deluge in 2020.
  12. Through today we are actually very close to about average summer time (June-August) across almost all sites in Chester County....no doubt at PHL it will end up being a blazing summer. I suspect that warming trend with UHI at the airport will not be changing for any summer soon!
  13. We warm to slightly above normal today before our only shot at 90 with the coming "urban area heat wave" will be tomorrow when many spots should again touch 90 for one of the few times this summer. Our record high today is 96 degrees from 1937. The record low is 48 degrees from the summer of the Phillies collapse - 1964. The daily rainfall record is 1.36" set way back in 1898.
  14. Our record high for today is 100 degrees set in 1955. The record low is 47 degrees from 1959. The daily rainfall record is 2.00" set back in 1950. Only made it to the low 70's yesterday. With now 6 of our last 7 days featuring below normal temps across our county. However, temps will begin to warm to slightly above average both today and tomorrow before we have our next chance at a 90 degree day on Thursday. After that we will see some unsettled weather as we head toward the weekend with temps back down into the 80's. Still no "heat waves" in East Nantmeal this summer.
  15. Some final July climate data from around Chester County - overall a very near normal temperature month with below normal rainfall. Glenmoore finished with an avg. temp of 76.1 this is 0.4 degrees above normal. (29th warmest July out of 66 years of record) and 4.02" of rain (0.72" below normal) East Nantmeal Township finished with an avg temp of 74.5 or 0.5 degrees above normal (62nd warmest July out of 129 years of record)and 3.71" of rain (1.17" below normal) KMQS Airport in Coatesville avg. temp 75.7 or +0.5 degrees above normal (8th warmest July out of only 15 years of record)
  16. Some more needed rain has fallen across the county since last evening. Totals include 0.68" at East Nantmeal, 0.77" in Elverson, 0.62" at Marsh Creek and 0.61" in Downingtown. We finished the month of July at only slightly warmer than normal at +0.5 degrees to average. Contrast this with Philadelphia who finishes July a whopping +3.4 degrees above normal including 19 days over 90 degrees...only 1 such day in East Nantmeal and 4 at the Coatesville Airport.
  17. We should finish the month with out 5th day in the last 6 with below normal temps. The earlier discussed heat wave coming later this week appears to be a bit more muted than earlier thought. The NWS now only has Thursday with a high above 90 degrees with temps back into the mid-80's by Friday and Saturday. Our record high for today is the 102 degrees set back in 1954. The record low was 48 degrees set way back in 1895. Our daily rainfall record is the 2.49" that fell today in 1992.
  18. Today looks to be another slightly below normal temperature day across Chester County. We should finish the month of July as very close to average temps. A great weekend in store before the heat begins to build during the upcoming week. The record high temperature for today is 98 degrees set in 1917. Our record low is 50 degrees set in 1956. The daily rainfall record is the 1.11" that fell today in 1918.
  19. We ended up with a total of 1.56" of rain from the 3 combined events yesterday. Brings us to just above normal for the year! Our record high today is 101 degrees set in 1901. The record low is 47 degrees from 1956. Daily rainfall record is the 2.48" that fell in 1976.
  20. My VP2 is showing 1.00" so far today in the 2 "events"....will get the actual coco bucket reading later....unfortunately some of my FB observers in other parts of the county report absolutely nada for today. The frustration of summer t-storms!!
  21. While the PHL airport with it's UHI contamination will fuel our climate alarmist friends....as through yesterday PHL is currently running as the 4th warmest July on record. Climate analysis for July temp rankings across Western Chester County are unsurprisingly middle of the pack for July warmth through yesterday. With average temperature through yesterday / # of years of records / July 2022 ranking. East Nantmeal (74.6) #60 of 129 years Glenmoore (75.7) #27 of 66 years KMQS (75.2) #8 of 15 years
  22. Here in East Nantmeal Township in Chester County PA we picked up 0.44" of needed rainfall overnight into this morning. Some increasing chances of showers again tomorrow. Our record high temperature today is the 101 degrees set back in 1944. The record low is 50 degrees from 1946. The daily rainfall record is the 3.47" that fell today in 1914.
  23. Some increasing chances for some rain over the next several days as we are now running a little over 2 inches below normal for the month of July. Today's record high is 99 degrees set in 1940. The record low is 48 degrees set back in 1946. The daily rainfall record is 2.23" from 1966.
  24. Unfortunately we could only squeeze out 0.04" of rain yesterday in East Nantmeal. The good news across the County is we have a few more chances of rain this week. With the highest chance being Wednesday night. Of note yesterday's low temperature sets a new low minimum record at 74.3 - this eclipses the old record of 74.0 set back in 2013. The AC has surely been needed these recent nights! Also on the bright side our temperatures will return to near normal for the rest of this week. In fact we should not see any chances of 90 degree weather across much of Chesco over the next week or so. Our record high temperature today is 99 degrees set back in 1940. The record low for today is 48 degrees from 1977. Record daily rainfall is the 1.64" that fell today in 1994.
