  1. The town has been scraping mud and rocks off the roads with a front-end loader, and it sounds just like plows on a snowy night. How we wish.
  2. The homes on Gidley Rd along Sprout Creek must have been just swamped. They got hit hard during Irene, and this was at least as bad as then for our area. A neighbor grew up in my house in the late 60s and early 70s, and he said this was the worst flooding he'd ever seen from my pond. The bank and outflow channel will need some remedial work, but at least it's still a pond, which was in doubt for a while. I'm told a number of people had to be rescued from stalled cars on Waterbury and Camby last night. How folks manage to get themselves in that situation, I'll never understand Radar estimated storm total precip from WeatherTap. Totals are almost always inflated, but good for identifying spatial patterns. I finally got around to checking the Stratus - 4.73" for a total, almost all of which fell in 90 minutes.
  3. The hits keep coming for sure. It doesn't get much more dead-nuts than this:
  4. 6" according to the PWS, I'll check the Stratus in the morning. It seems that my pond completely breached... front yard is under 3' of rushing water which continues down the road for about 1/4 mile. You could see numerous fish getting swept away, rather sadly.
  5. Yeah, for real. Tipper says I'm over 4" now. Lord alone knows what that translates to in reality, but it's just getting heavier.
  6. The firehose has commenced. Another weekend, another epic deluge.
  7. Thanks for the update on when to expect the next big rain event, much appreciated
  8. I think the biggest downside to raised beds is that they're among the quickest paths to spending $1000 for $17 worth of potatoes. Otherwise, they'd definitely be a big help with drainage.
  9. Early blight of tomatoes is coming on fast and furious... that crop could be a near-total loss if we stay cloudy and unsettled for the next couple weeks, which is a safe bet.
  10. I know it's so unlike me to complain about the weather ( ), but I'm losing my mind here. I haven't been so bummed about the first half of summer since 2006. Maybe someone with more long-range skill can comment, but I don't see any big change through the end of the month.
  11. +1.75" since this measurement. So up to 7.87" for the month. Wonder if I can pick up another inch this evening for good measure. On the plus side, it's sunny and beautiful for the time being.
  12. Correct, but we are now back online. There was a tree on the wires two doors down and for whatever reason, no work was being attempted on it until late yesterday. I'm sure they had a good reason... leaving a tree across a county road for two days is probably frowned upon unless it's absolutely crucial that it not be moved until they're totally ready. As soon as crews got on-site it was just a matter of a couple hours. I'm at about 99% hate and 1% love at this point. I'm not sure what "charm" is worth but it's definitely not more than the cost of repairs each year.
  13. It's all good, out of my control so I try not to spend too much energy fretting about it. I'll let ya buy me a beer at the long overdue NW burbs gtg. Definitely some tight gradients with this week's precip. The same areas seem to be favored day after day
  14. Add another 0.97" this afternoon so far. Pool and pond alike are overflowing... maximum soppage.
  15. Still out and not optimistic about restoration today. 1.67" in the Stratus from last night, 5.15" on the month so far. Drenched.
  16. It's a total monsoon here. Absolutely biblical rain and lightning ...which I suppose means the linemen aren't working tonight
  17. Yessir. Gone are the days of gentle summer storms, someone always gets walloped these days. Hard to tell if the storms are getting more severe, or we're just getting worse at maintaining the infrastructure.
  18. It was my neighborhood's turn to get trashed yesterday. No power, cell signal, phone... trees and wires down all over. My place is fine except for all my corn getting blown down and squash leaves turning into Swiss cheese from penny-sized hail. My beloved tomatoes are no worse for wear, thank goodness
  19. Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose...
  20. .36" here since we switched from convection to stratiform. A wet start to the month imby. I know people are encouraged by the prospect of a drying trend on Sunday, but eh... days of sogginess sort of kills the vibe for me even if it's technically not raining anymore while manning the grill on the 4th.
  21. Yes, you are privileged, and your totally baseless comment that "most people" won't work for a decent living shows that you have entirely the wrong attitude about it. I also have a pool, a bit bigger than yours in fact, and I'm privileged too. Acknowledging one's privilege has no shame. You could have made your point about heat sans the sanctimony and braggadocio. As homeowners, you and I choose a lifestyle that requires outdoor maintenance in some pretty appalling conditions. It shouldn't be a surprise, since it always gets hot in the summer. If another person's situation allows them to enjoy the sensation of hot weather without having to worry about the implications, more power to them. It's extremely tasteless to call names and cast aspersions. According to the CDC, cold exposure kills more Americans annually than heat-caused illnesses: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/12/17/cold-temperatures-kill-more-americans-than-hot-ones-cdc-data-show/. If you want to discuss concern for the elderly, let's talk about the 11,500 annual emergency room visits caused by shoveling snow: https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2021/02/16/why-shoveling-snow-can-be-dangerous/ Like 95% of people on this board, I detest this weather. Just important to keep some perspective and realize that none of us is particularly special.
  22. I know, right? My 70k gallon pool is gross, not refreshing at all. Even my private spa is too warm, I had to give my live-in masseuse the day off since there was just no point. Anyone who claims to "love" warm wx has never tried to climb into their Gulfstream G550 that's been sitting in the sun since getting back from breakfast in Naples. Normal people like you and me will never be able to reason with these folks.
  23. I think you can pretty much assume that most PWS temps are several ticks too high with the sun as strong as it is this time of year, unless the owner has invested in an upgraded radiation shield... which I certainly have not. Rob's 93 seems reasonable, even a little lower than I'd expect, but I'm pretty sure I never actually got to 97 here. Same for any renegade 100+ readings in the area.
